Purpose The Community Organizer leads CWS robust individual volunteer program, supporting staff ability to effectively serve clients while building meaningful and positive relationships with volunteers. This position also leads community engagement efforts in support of maintaining a community of welcome and belonging for refugee and immigrant neighbors. This role will grow and diversify CWS existing individual volunteer program and targeted outreach and partnerships with institutions of higher education, local community-based organizations, and individual community volunteers. This position requires time allocated to relationship and community building, engaging with volunteers, interns, and various other constituencies, such as faith groups, community organizations, and refugee and immigrant leaders.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in lieu of degree.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ previous work experience coordinating volunteers and donations.
  • Experience speaking to community groups and large audiences.
  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills are required.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential.
  • Strong relationship building, diplomacy, and networking skills; ability to effectively build internal and external relationships.
  • Demonstrated success working and communicating effectively in a multi-cultural environment.
  • Self-starter with excellent problem-solving skills combined with the proven ability to multi-task, prioritize duties, and manage time effectively.
  • Self-direction and initiative, when needed, to take the lead and to follow through to completion.
  • The successful candidate must be computer literate, with proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word and Excel) and internet applications.

Responsibilities

  • Lead CWS individual volunteer program, including recruitment, training, and deployment across programs areas. Collaborate with Legal Services Pro-Bono Coordinator to support and guide pro-bono attorney engagement.
  • Train and on-board volunteer interpreters to serve across office needs, ensuring best practices for interpreters and celebrating volunteer interpreter achievements.
  • Lead the development and management of volunteer planning and scheduling to ensure office needs are fulfilled.
  • Ensure volunteers are reporting their time and activities to comply with federal funding requirements.
  • Maintain ongoing correspondence with volunteers regarding CWS needs, current programs, and community impact through e-newsletters, social media engagement, and in-person events. Develop print and multi-media materials to support volunteer training and engagement, such as flyers, social media posts.
  • Plan and deliver high impact engagement and training opportunities for current and new volunteers with the goal of increasing overall volunteer retention and engagement.
  • Create and execute volunteer recruitment plan to grow individual volunteer base through outreach to individuals, community-based organizations and groups, colleges/universities, and corporations as needed, while advancing individual and group partnerships.
  • Manage individual volunteer backgrounding, onboarding and training materials, including online learning platform, in compliance with CWS global policies. Manage CRM platform to ensure accurate records and best practices; serve as platform expert to support other program areas use of software.
  • Develop and implement a volunteer recognition plan that includes gratitude gifts, appreciation events, and the gathering of content for articles, videos and social media to highlight volunteers.
  • Engage program supervisors in regular volunteer needs assessments, developing new activities and opportunities for volunteers to engage with CWS in support for program needs.
  • Assist in regularly reviewing and revising volunteer recruitment, management & recognition tools, including volunteer tracking database, e-learning program, and volunteer resources to reflect program needs and best practices.
  • Assist on developing and administration on the annual volunteer engagement survey
  • Mentor and engage with Volunteer Engagement Intern, when available.
  • Cultivate, build, and maintain relationships with local community partners to educate about refugee and immigrant issues, CWS programming, and opportunities for collaboration. Initiate and manage and/or directly execute small group meetings, workshops, and presentations to heighten CWS visibility in the community.
  • Serve as the CWS staff mentor to local college and university student clubs, supporting clubs in developing at least one fundraising event per year and one on-campus educational/advocacy event in support of refugees and immigrants.
  • Facilitate speaking engagements and community outreach through managing website requests and coordinating with bureau participants and leadership.
  • Assist in identifying areas for collaboration with local individuals and community groups to support community efforts in building a culture of welcome and belonging.
  • Support in writing relevant grant proposals related to community engagement.
  • Limited travel within south-central PA may be required.
  • Assist in setting goals and identify strategies for increasing volunteer financial giving, such as monthly donor programs, Extra Give, etc.
  • Assist with planning, implementing and attending special events, recruit volunteers for support during these events.
  • Support CWS community engagement team in communication strategy and outreach for signature events.
  • Advocate for refugees, asylees, and entrants by developing educational materials and training that assists community leaders in promoting involvement and raising awareness about refugee and immigrant concerns.
  • Develop a strong understanding of refugee and immigrant issues via trainings, webinars, media, books, publications, and reference tools, using current information to educate broader community about refugees and immigrants.
  • Works varied hours, including possible night and weekend work.
  • Other duties as assigned.
