About The Position

The ideal candidate has a gift of mobilizing and influencing groups to become well-informed and act on important and relevant community issues. This position is part of a work experience immersion program. Experience or expertise working with the LGBTQ+ community on economic or health related issues is required. This position supports the development and facilitation of community alcohol, tobacco, and other drug (ATOD) prevention and education efforts in San Diego. Outgoing community engagement required. This limited duration position is eligible for telework schedule not to exceed 40% remote. Availability to work nights and weekends as needed for community-based events. This is a part-time, limited duration employment (LDE) opportunity and ends June 30th, 2026 . The position is not benefit eligible.

Requirements

  • Preferred some college course work
  • Solid experience working with LGBTQ+ community related issues required
  • Experience organizing community members for school engagement, leadership development, social service-related and / or public health campaigns.
  • Experience with prevention services to include one (1) or more ATOD-related or public health campaigns.
  • Solid ability to organize, develop, and sustain community-based resident and stakeholder engagement
  • Knowledge of socio-economic challenges and multicultural issues affecting the communities where program schools are located
  • Demonstrated experience working with a broad range of diverse ethnicities, backgrounds, cultures, and socioeconomic populations
  • Strong initiative, self-directed, and ability to work independently
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, Adobe, or CapCut editing, Squarespace and or Canva
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work within a flexible schedule that includes some evenings, as needed
  • Access to reliable transportation and willingness to use for job-related tasks

Responsibilities

  • Actively support community member programming focused on leadership development and ATOD prevention with input, ideas and collaboration.
  • Create social media content and educational materials focused on alcohol, tobacco, and other drug prevention related activities, events, and news.
  • Attend and provide input on leadership development efforts through trainings, workshops, interactive activities, advocacy campaigns, and neighborhood involvement projects.
  • Refer community members to resources to increase awareness and understanding of community-focused and community-based initiatives and strategies.
  • Collaborate with coalition to identify community conditions that promote alcohol, tobacco, and other drug use, and identify community-led solutions to address them.
  • Collect and prepare data for outcome monitoring systems, and statistical records for funder and impact reports.
  • With support from Program Supervisor, edit and provide content to Collective s website using Squarespace platform.
