About The Position

We seek a dynamic individual to join the Community Nutrition Program at Project Open Hand, which provides healthy and nutritious meals to residents of San Francisco in a congregate setting. The Community Nutrition Site Coordinator works directly with the Managers of the Community Nutrition Program and host agency staff to administer meal service to adults with disabilities and older adults on location at assigned sites across San Francisco. This is a great opportunity to directly engage and be of service to our community by helping provide thousands of meals to older adults and adults with disabilities. Our meal participants rely on the Community Nutrition Program for both nutrition and a safe place to build community and gather with peers.

Nice To Haves

  • Some experience working in Human Services Programs, especially with older adults, adults with disabilities, people with mental health and substance abuse issues
  • Former food service experience
  • Demonstrated experience and ability to maintain calm and help de-escalate a variety of situations with clients, not limited to issues around: critical illness, substance abuse, mental health, service animals, homelessness
  • Bilingual Cantonese and/or Spanish
  • Excellent written and verbal communication in English
  • Supervisory experience

Responsibilities

  • Administers the Community Nutrition Program in accordance with the Department of Disability and Aging Services (DAS) standards and operations
  • Performs intakes on new participants and provides them with an overview of the meal site and all meal program policies, procedures and expectations
  • Assesses meal site’s food service needs and monitors changing trends
  • Works with supervisor to make daily and periodic adjustments to ensure site wastage does not exceed 2%
  • Trains and supervises volunteers in accordance with Volunteer Services’ guidelines and Community Nutrition Program’s policies, portion control & food safety
  • Responsible for maintaining at least a 90% meal participant scanning accuracy for Gold Cards
  • Manages site supply inventory and food service equipment
  • Perform repetitive duties and ability to move, lift, carry, push, pull up to 50lbs unassisted regularly
  • Responsible for submitting all site paperwork on time
  • Ensures the meal site’s atmosphere is welcoming, supportive, safe, attractive and as pleasing as possible
  • Attends staff meetings and training sessions as necessary
  • Maintain clear and efficient communication between all parties involved in the meal service process including a supportive working relationship with the Host Agency
  • Mediates disputes between meal participants and assesses and handles all
