About The Position

The Community Nutrition Coordinator is a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist that will serve as the clinical and technical authority for a new statewide community-based nutrition program as part of the Oklahoma State Department of Health (OSDH) county health departments. This position develops, implements, and manages a community nutrition care model that provides individualized nutrition services to children and families referred through health assessments, care coordination, and community partnerships. The position establishes clinical standards, develops workflows, trains clinic-based dietitians, and ensures consistent, evidence-based care delivery across sites. The role functions as the primary subject matter expert and program architect, building a sustainable referral-based nutrition service integrated into public health operations.

Requirements

  • Consists of registration as a dietitian or dietitian nutritionist (RD or RDN) with the Commission on Dietetic Registration and licensure with the Oklahoma State Board of Medical Licensure and Supervision plus 4 years of experience as a registered dietitian.
  • A master’s degree in public health with a major in nutrition or a master’s degree with an emphasis on nutrition may substitute for one year of experience.
  • If education, certification or licensure is required to meet qualifications, applicants must provide documentation at the time of application.

  • Ability to plan, coordinate, and implement multiple projects and priorities; take guidance and direction and move forward with implementation; establish and maintain effective working relationships with others; communicate effectively both orally and in writing; interpret and apply federal and state as well as agency policies and procedures; exercise good judgment in the solution of problems.

Responsibilities

  • Program Development & Implementation Design and launch a statewide community nutrition service model within county health departments (CHDs).
  • Develop and maintain clinical protocols, pediatric-focused nutrition care pathways, workflows, documentation standards, and referral processes.
  • Assemble and directly supervise a team of registered dietitian nutritionists and lactation specialists at the state-level to implement, administer and support this new statewide community-based nutrition model.
  • Lead the development, implementation and periodic review of policies, procedures, and training materials guiding community nutrition services statewide.
  • Create performance metrics and quality improvement processes.
  • Clinical Leadership & Technical Consultation Serve as the statewide nutrition subject matter expert, translating complex regulations into operational guidance.
  • Function as the primary clinical resource for clinic-based community dietitians, including complex case consultation, chart review, and quality assurance.
  • Provide consultation and technical assistance to internal and external partners on lifecycle nutrition programs, policies, and best practices.
  • Lead or participate in assigned state-level task forces, workgroups, and committees.
  • Referral Network & Community Integration Establish referral pathways among CHDs, schools, healthcare providers, and community partners.
  • Collaborate with care coordination staff.
  • Develop outreach, education, and engagement strategies to support program integration.
  • Workforce Development & Training Lead onboarding and training of community dietitians statewide.
  • Oversee the development of orientation curriculum.
  • Provide opportunities for continuing education hours.
  • Create standardized counseling tools.
  • Budget Oversight, Accountability & Optimization Manage budget associated with funded projects and programs, ensuring fiscal accountability, allowability of expenses, and alignment with grant objectives.
  • Monitor expenditures and collaborate with administrative and financial staff to ensure compliance with funding requirements.
  • Develop and collaborate with the revenue cycle team on billing processes and procedures to ensure program sustainability and compliance with applicable regulations.
  • Ensure program compliance with applicable local, state, and federal laws, regulations, and contractual obligations.
  • Being present at the office is an essential function of the job.
