About The Position

The School of Music, within the College of Arts and Sciences, seeks Community Music School Instructors to join our team. The College of Arts and Sciences is the largest college and the academic heart of the university. The College hosts 81 majors. With 38 departments, 20+ world-class research centers, and more than 2,000 faculty and staff members, students have the unique opportunity to study with the best artists, scholars, and scientists in their field. Community Music School Instructors will teach engaging and effective private lessons, classes, and/or ensembles and collaborate with the Community Music School Manager and the School of Music’s administrative team to oversee compliance with school policies and procedures that align with the school’s mission and vision. Instructors will contribute to a positive and inclusive learning environment that supports the growth and development of students and act as liaisons between students and parents to ensure that their needs and concerns are addressed in a timely and professional manner; and implement strategies to increase enrollment, retain students and improve student outcomes. Instructor specializations include the following: Private Instruction: bassoon, cello, clarinet, drum set, electric bass, euphonium, flute, French horn, guitar, harp, oboe, piano, saxophone, trombone, tuba, ukulele, upright bass, viola, violin, voice, etc. Class Instruction: composition, group guitar, group piano, history, preschool music, Suzuki group classes, technology, theory, etc. Ensemble Direction: band, chamber ensembles, choirs, jazz ensemble, orchestra, rock band, etc.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in music or related field or equivalent experience in music teaching
  • strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively interact with students, parents, instructors, and community partners
  • knowledge of music education pedagogy, curriculum development, and assessment
  • A cover letter explaining your interest in the position and including a statement of your approaches, experience and philosophy regarding your teaching, learning, and mentoring.

Nice To Haves
