About The Position

The Community Initiatives Specialist is responsible for supporting the Community Initiatives Team in its three primary objectives – child hunger, nutrition education and benefits assistance. About the East Texas Food Bank The mission of the East Texas Food Bank is to fight hunger and feed hope in East Texas. The Food Bank’s team is dedicated to building community awareness and creating an efficient food distribution network to eliminate hunger in East Texas. Staff is committed to embodying the Food Bank’s values in all activities. Relationships are based on collaboration and respect. Resources are leveraged in a manner that is strategic and cost effective in order to achieve the Food Bank’s mission and goals. POSITION GOALS Support the Community Initiatives Team in the following ways: Child Hunger Assist with program operations of Child Hunger Programs (Backpack, CACFP, SFSP) including management of data entry, ordering and inventory, and menu and program planning. Conduct monitoring visits at sites. Nutrition Education Plan, administer, and coordinate nutrition education classes utilizing evidence-based materials at Summer Feeding sites, after school programs, food pantries and other community organizations that serve low-income persons. Benefits Assistance Assist Benefits Assistance Specialist with processing referrals. Complete application assistance. Conduct outreach activities to increase awareness of ETFB’s benefits assistance services. Additional Responsibilities: While the primary responsibilities include the tasks outlined above, the Community Initiatives Specialist may be required to perform other duties as assigned by management or based on organizational needs. This flexibility ensures that the team can adapt to evolving priorities and demands. Physical Requirements: • Must be able to lift 50 pounds and walk, climb, bend, reach, crawl, and stretch.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent related experience.
  • Technologically proficient.
  • Intermediate skill level in Microsoft Office programs and ability to learn new software systems.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with emphasis on accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Self-starter, highly motivated, dynamic, and creative professional with entrepreneurial spirit.
  • Ability to work independently and effectively meet deadlines.
  • Ability to multi-task.
  • Ability to successfully teach and motivate others.
  • Ability to compassionately work with diverse people.
  • Ability to foster a team environment.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.
  • Knowledge of the East Texas area and its diverse communities, including hunger and poverty issues
  • Ability to successfully develop, implement, and manage multiple projects from start to finish.
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds and walk, climb, bend, reach, crawl, and stretch.

Nice To Haves

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish very strongly preferred
  • Experience in working with not-for-profit organization.
