The Community Initiatives Specialist is responsible for supporting the Community Initiatives Team in its three primary objectives – child hunger, nutrition education and benefits assistance. About the East Texas Food Bank The mission of the East Texas Food Bank is to fight hunger and feed hope in East Texas. The Food Bank’s team is dedicated to building community awareness and creating an efficient food distribution network to eliminate hunger in East Texas. Resources are leveraged in a manner that is strategic and cost effective in order to achieve the Food Bank’s mission and goals. POSITION GOALS Support the Community Initiatives Team in the following ways: Child Hunger Assist with program operations of Child Hunger Programs (Backpack, CACFP, SFSP) including management of data entry, ordering and inventory, and menu and program planning. Conduct monitoring visits at sites. Nutrition Education Plan, administer, and coordinate nutrition education classes utilizing evidence-based materials at Summer Feeding sites, after school programs, food pantries and other community organizations that serve low-income persons. Benefits Assistance Assist Benefits Assistance Specialist with processing referrals. Complete application assistance. Conduct outreach activities to increase awareness of ETFB’s benefits assistance services. Additional Responsibilities: While the primary responsibilities include the tasks outlined above, the Community Initiatives Specialist may be required to perform other duties as assigned by management or based on organizational needs. This flexibility ensures that the team can adapt to evolving priorities and demands. Physical Requirements: • Must be able to lift 50 pounds and walk, climb, bend, reach, crawl, and stretch.
