About The Position

The Sedgwick County Health Department (SCHD) Community Health and Outreach Manager leads the Community Health and Outreach program that promotes wellness and prevents disease in the community by engaging Sedgwick County residents and community partners. The position oversees the Community Health Assessment and Community Health Improvement Plan and chronic and infectious disease health education and prevention. The position supervises a Community Health Worker that performs outreach and connects clients to services. The manager will assume a command level leadership position during public health emergencies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree. Two years of work experience in a leadership role in public health, public services, and/or community services, including all of the following (which can be accomplished at the same time): one year of work experience in planning and developing programs, one year of work experience building partnerships with community organizations, one year of experience or training in data management and/or data analysis, and one year of supervisory experience and/or experience evaluating the performance of others.
  • OR
  • Six years of work experience in public health, public services, and/or community service. Two of the six years must be in a leadership role in public health, public service, and/or community service that includes all of the following (which can be accomplished at the same time): one year of work experience in planning and developing programs, one year of work experience building partnerships with community organzations, one year of experience or training in data management and/or data analysis, and one year of supervisory experience and/or experience evaluating the performance of others.
  • Per Sedgwick County Policy, this is a driving level position that requires a valid US driver’s license without restrictions and current proof of automobile insurance. Must complete Federal Emergency Management Administration (FEMA) IS 100, 200, 700, and 800 courses within 30 days of employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Three years of experience in coalition building, facilitation and/or research.
  • One year of technical writing experience.
  • Three years of work experience supervising and evaluating employees.
  • Two years of health education experience.
  • Master’s degree in public health or a biological, medical, or health science or related public service field.
  • Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES), Certified in Public Health (CPH).
