About The Position

The Community Engagement Specialist is responsible for facilitating and coordinating a community engagement strategy for Southwood Interventions in the neighborhoods of Englewood and West Englewood.  The specialist will pay specific attention to the Aldermen Offices, the faith-based community and the other human service organizations within the Englewood and West Englewood neighborhoods. The Community Engagement Specialist will work closely with R.A.G.E., Metropolitan Family Services, Cook County Adult Probation, the Illinois Department of Probation and Parole and TASC, Inc (Treatment Alternatives for Safe Communities) to drive referrals to the Southwood residential and outpatient programs. The Community Engagement Specialist works closely with the Administrative Team of Southwood Interventions and the Illinois Marketing Team of Abraxas Youth and Family Services to: Communicate the mission of Southwood Interventions to stakeholders in the Englewood and West Englewood neighborhoods. Promote the programs and services of Southwood Interventions to local politicians, non-profits, civic organizations and those who suffer from a substance use disorder. Provide input and information for marketing materials, social media campaigns and other external communication methods. Participate in community outreach events as well as representing Southwood Interventions in initiatives that promote the community’s awareness of Southwood. Outreach to agencies, organizations and stakeholders to conduct presentations about Southwood Interventions services and programs. Work collaboratively with the Illinois Marketing Team to promote Southwood Interventions to substance use disorder patients and providers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, public relations, communication or a related field.
  • Minimum two years of experience in community engagement or a related field.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven ability to prioritize and multitask efficiently.
  • Ability to think creatively and develop innovative solutions.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends.
  • Knowledge of local community organizations and stakeholders.
  • Proactive, self-motivated and the ability to work independently.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • At least twenty-one (21) years of age.
  • Criminal Clearances (Act 33 and 34, specific State and child clearances and if necessary, FBI).
  • Non-communicable diseases physical exam, drug test and TB screen.
