About The Position

The Community Engagement Manager plays a key, hands-on role on the Development team by coordinating and strengthening Freedom School Partners' volunteer and community engagement efforts. This position focuses on day-to-day volunteer management, relationship building, and implementation of engagement strategies that expand organizational capacity and community involvement. Working closely with program, development, and communications staff, the Community Engagement Manager supports volunteer participation, in-kind contributions, and business engagement while helping advance annual fundraising goals. This role is well-suited for a mission-driven professional with growing experience in volunteer coordination, civic engagement, or nonprofit development who is eager to deepen their skills and make a tangible impact

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree (or equivalent experience).
  • 3-5 years of experience in volunteer management, community engagement, or nonprofit development.
  • Familiarity with volunteer management or fundraising databases (Bloomerang preferred but not required).
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Google suite and project management tools.
  • Ability to maintain discretion and confidentiality.
  • Exceptional listening, problem-solving skills and adaptability.
  • Ability to build relationships and collaborate across diverse stakeholders.
  • Proactive and results-driven mindset.

Responsibilities

  • Evolve and manage FSP's volunteer program, ensuring positive, mission-aligned experiences for scholars, and all stakeholders.
  • Coordinate volunteer efforts across program sites in partnership with site partners, staff, and faith and business community.
  • Recruit, orient, schedule, and retain volunteers to meet organizational and programmatic needs.
  • Maintain volunteer records, applications, and training materials to ensure safety, consistency, and compliance.
  • Track and report volunteer participation and hours using volunteer management systems, ensuring data accuracy and timeliness.
  • Draft volunteer communications, role descriptions, and correspondence in collaboration with the Marketing and Communications Manager.
  • Serve as a welcoming FSP representative at volunteer and community events.
  • Plan and support annual volunteer appreciation and recognition activities.
  • Develop and oversee the FSP Teen Board Volunteer Program.
  • Manage and grow in-kind donations to support programs and special events.
  • Accurately record and maintain in-kind donor information in fundraising management system, and coordinate acknowledgements with the Philanthropy Manger.
  • Identify, cultivate and steward relationships with business, civic and affinity volunteer groups.
  • Partner with the Chief Development Officer and Philanthropy Manager to solicit businesses for annual fundraising event sponsorships.
  • Support micro-grant research and submissions in collaboration with the Chief Development Officer and grant writer.
  • Help create pathways that encourage volunteers to deepen engagement, including potential conversion to donors.
