About The Position

Join Us in Making a Difference at DJS! The Maryland Department of Juvenile Services (DJS) is dedicated to transforming young lives, creating safer communities, and fostering equitable systems. We are seeking passionate individuals for the role of Community Detention Administrator IV of Community Detention (CD) , so come join our team and make a meaningful impact on youth and the community at DJS! This position is responsible for providing administrative supervision of the regional CD operations. This includes the Community Field Operations, the Command Center, and the GPS/CDRR Rapid Response Teams. The Community Detention Administrator will work directly with the Executive Directors of Community Operations to ensure that the departmental goals are being met and that the CD and GPS standard operating procedures are carried out. The CD Program houses two very critical functions: providing direct supervision and surveillance for youth court ordered into an alternative to detention and placed on home detention; and youth requiring GPS supervision to track movements 24/7 in the community. Both facets of the operation are directly related to public safety. Requiring the CD Administrator to work closely with their team to ensure compliance, requiring periods of On-Call Administrative duties due to the 24/7 operational needs. The position requires the incumbent to be available 24/7 to respond to EM/GPS needs.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
  • Six years of administrative staff or professional work.
  • Candidates may substitute 30 credit hours from an accredited college or university for each year up to four years of the required experience.
  • Candidates may substitute the possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and two years of experience in administrative staff or professional work for the required experience.
  • Candidates may substitute the possession of a Master's degree from an accredited college or university for five years of the required experience.
  • Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer involving staff work related to the administration of rules, regulations, policy, procedures and processes, or overseeing or coordinating unit operations or functioning as a staff assistant to a higher ranking commissioned officer on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.
  • Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.

Nice To Haves

  • Six years of experience in Community Detention Operations.
  • Two years of planning/supervisory experience in a 24/7 operational environment.
  • Exercises reliability and flexibility in meeting staffing, scheduling, and attendance requirements within a mission-critical or public safety setting.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively engage stakeholders and clearly convey operational expectations and policy requirements.

Responsibilities
