About The Position

Advances the Credit Union’s mission by empowering members and prospective members to achieve lasting financial well-being. Financial well-being extends beyond finances to include housing stability, employment, health, and overall quality of life. The Community Connector serves as a trusted guide and advocate, working one-on-one with individuals to build confidence, resilience, and capability as they navigate financial and life challenges. Through personalized coaching, financial education, and strategic connections to community resources, the Community Connector helps remove barriers to stability and opportunity. This role also strengthens the Credit Union’s community presence by leading outreach efforts and delivering impactful financial education in group settings, while collaborating with Credit Union teams to connect members with appropriate products and services that support their long-term success.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred (social work, community development, education, communications), or an equivalent combination of education, certifications, and relevant experience.
  • Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel throughout Delaware, Madison, and Henry Counties to serve members and community partners.
  • Primary office location in Muncie with regular travel to Thrive branches, community events, and partner organizations.
  • Commitment to becoming a Certified Credit Union Financial Counselor.
  • Must attend Credit Union Development Educator School and become a Certified Development Educator.
  • Ability to build trust, foster meaningful relationships, and serve as a positive ambassador for Thrive Credit Union.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to influence, educate, and support members with professionalism, empathy, and discretion.
  • Ability to lift up to 15 pounds as needed for outreach and community events.

Responsibilities

  • Assist individuals in navigating their lives through financial counseling and referrals to community partners. Work with members one-on-one, as couples, or in small groups. This may include referrals from departments across the Credit Union to assist members who may be experiencing financial challenges.
  • Ensure Financial Consultants are fully equipped to deliver effective, compassionate financial counseling to members. This includes coordinating access to up-to-date tools, resources, and training; creating and maintaining standardized materials and workflows; and serving as a liaison between consultants and internal teams to address gaps or needs.
  • Regularly assess financial counseling program effectiveness, gather feedback, and recommend improvements to enhance member outcomes and ensure consistent, high-quality financial guidance across all locations.
  • Build and maintain relationships with community partners who offer programs and resources that help members achieve financial wellbeing.
  • Promote Thrive Credit Union programs and services through community outreach and events.
  • Serve as the primary staff liaison to Thrive’s CDFI Advisory Council where you will coordinate and schedule quarterly advisory council meetings, agendas, materials, and follow-up communications.
  • Identify gaps and opportunities in Thrive’s products and services that impact low- and moderate-income individuals and families.
  • Schedule and facilitate financial education classes and workshops for members and organizations, either by providing instruction directly or by securing qualified instructors. Develop lesson plans and adapt curriculum to meet the needs of each group.
