The members of the History, Political Science, and Education Department value a diversity of approaches and backgrounds in our faculty. We are committed to providing a solid foundation in core historical areas to students of all backgrounds. We believe in a rigorous quality education that provides learning opportunities on multiple levels. Our curriculum offers a range of introductory and intermediate level courses that enhance the liberal arts preparation for students working toward the History Transfer Pathway AA degree, another degree program at Normandale, or transferring to four-year institutions, whether or not they major in history. The Department encourages a participatory and democratic faculty culture and affirms the historically engaged roles our faculty have played in service to the college. Normandale Community College is striving to achieve racial equity in educational outcomes. Those hired into these positions will be expected to advance this goal through culturally responsive teaching, identifying barriers to success for students of color, and proposing effective solutions to eliminate those barriers.
