About The Position

Community Center Supervisor Supervises events or programs at Yancey School Community Center, Greenwood Community Center, or Meadows Community Center. Essential functions: Overseeing the event operation of Community Center buildings and scheduled functions. Custodial services, customer and business services, as well as facility management. Responsible for the security of the facility; including opening and closing the community center for scheduled functions. Monitors, evaluates, and supervises the operations of assigned recreation program areas and facility operations. Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications: General knowledge of the operation of a community center; general knowledge of recreation and related rules and regulations.  Ability to maintain order in a public facility; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with participants, co-workers, and the general public and the ability to work independently.   Working knowledge of custodial and maintenance care of buildings Physical Conditions and Nature of Work Contacts:   Work requires strenuous physical tasks, including bending, stooping, lifting, and carrying items weighing 20– 50 pounds. Regular contact with office personnel, other staff members and Community Center patrons.

Requirements

  • General knowledge of the operation of a community center
  • General knowledge of recreation and related rules and regulations
  • Ability to maintain order in a public facility
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with participants, co-workers, and the general public and the ability to work independently
  • Working knowledge of custodial and maintenance care of buildings
  • Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school, supplemented by experience in building maintenance and custodial practices.
  • At least 2 years of progressively responsible experience in the Parks and Recreation field, or any equivalent combination of acceptable education and experience providing the knowledge, abilities, and skills cited above.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia
