About The Position

The University of Nevada, Reno is recruiting for a full-time Community Based Instructor 3 with the Mineral County Extension 4-H Youth Development Program. This position is located in Hawthorne, NV, and reports to the Mineral County Extension County Coordinator. This position does not provide layoff rights and is contingent upon funding. The 4-H Community Based Instructor 3 provides expanded educational opportunities for youth from club-based and community-based audiences in Mineral County. The instructor in this position is responsible for recruiting, training, advising, and managing volunteers; developing and implementing methods for recruiting and retaining youth in the 4-H program; and delivering, managing, monitoring, and evaluating in-school and afterschool 4-H programming and curriculum delivery. In addition, the Community Based Instructor 3 will participate in 4-H youth development staff meetings at the local, area, state, and regional levels; cooperate and support work with state 4-H office on regional and state programs; and be responsive to clientele answering 4-H requests and questions, where applicable. The successful candidate will work professionally and effectively with diverse individuals, possess effective interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, and have the ability to contribute positively to the success of 4-H youth in fulfilling the mission of the University of Nevada, Reno Extension.

Requirements

  • Graduation from high school or equivalent education and three (3) years of relevant work experience in areas such as agriculture, horticulture, community development, health and nutrition, human and family development, and natural resources in urban and rural areas; OR An equivalent combination of education and experience as described above
  • This position requires candidates to complete a fingerprinting/background check.
  • A valid Class “C” driver’s license or higher operator’s license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
