About The Position

The National Ability Center is seeking an enthusiastic Community and Transition Program Assistant to help bring our Camps, Community, and Education programs to life during an unforgettable summer in Park City, Utah. This hands-on, people-first role is perfect for someone who loves working directly with adults with disabilities, thrives in an active outdoor environment, and wants to make a real impact every single day. From supporting transition programming and mentoring interns to jumping in as a camp counselor or shuttle driver when needed, you will play a key role in empowering participants to build independence, confidence, and life skills – all while being part of a passionate team dedicated to building an Adaptive Nation. The Community and Transition Program Assistant will support in implementation of transitional and camp programming and transportation of participants with varying physical, developmental, intellectual, and cognitive disabilities. This is a full-time seasonal position with a commitment to work starting May 4, 2026 through September 20, 2026. It requires working Monday through Friday with occasional weekend and after-hours work. This position is not eligible for remote work.

Requirements

  • Experience working with adults with developmental disabilities.
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification, or the ability to obtain.
  • Valid Driver’s License with clean driving record.
  • Be able to maintain a Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) physical.
  • Pass pre-employment background check.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States. We do not sponsor employment visas or other immigration processes to attain or maintain employment eligibility.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience as a camp counselor or experience working in adaptive recreation for people with disabilities.
  • Ability to speak Spanish and/or use American Sign Language (ASL).
  • Experience job coaching people with disabilities.
  • Degree or working towards a degree in Special Education, Recreation Therapy, or related field of study.

Responsibilities

  • Support the supervision, training, scheduling, and mentoring of COACH interns, supported volunteers, and PCALL and transition programming.
  • Support program implementation as needed for the camps and community department including acting as a camp counselor, driving the shuttle, etc.
  • Work with and communicate effectively with parents/guardians, staff, participants, and program supervisor/manager daily.
  • Role-model and teach skills in socialization, hygiene, self-advocacy, independence, and workplace skills etc.
  • Attend and engage in all required training(s)
  • Report all accidents, incidents, and disciplinary concerns to the program supervisor/manager.
  • Utilize behavior management techniques as needed.
  • Maintain documentation and record keeping (progress notes, daily “report cards”, incident reports, behavior plans, etc.).
  • Assist with overseeing proper usage of facilities, equipment, and supplies.
  • Assist with preparing/cleaning site, equipment, and vehicles for activities.
  • Assist with key fundraising events and other special events as needed to help advance program goals and support; serve as an ambassador and representative for the National Ability Center.
  • Other duties as assigned.
