About The Position

The Community Aide supports the Department of General Services by assisting with facilities maintenance operations and/or fleet service coordination. This role provides hands-on support to skilled trades staff, performs general maintenance and custodial duties, and assists with administrative, customer service, and compliance-related functions to ensure City facilities and fleet operations run efficiently and safely.

Requirements

  • One (1) year of experience in cleaning, custodial work.
  • Knowledge of the tools, materials, techniques and equipment of four of the five following areas: painting, carpentry, masonry, plumbing or electrical trades.
  • Knowledge of cleaning materials and methods.
  • Ability to perform minor painting and carpentry duties.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills.
  • Ability to multitask and work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
  • Ability to follow instructions.
  • Ability read gauges and monitor furnaces.
  • Eligible candidates under final consideration for appointments to positions identified as positions of trust will be required to complete authorization for a Criminal Background Check and/or Fingerprint must be successfully completed.
  • All persons, including current City employees, selected for this position must complete a mandatory six-month.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in facilities support and maintenance, customer service, or administrative support, skilled trades assistance, or fleet operations is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assists Building Repairers or Fleet staff with repair, maintenance, and operational support tasks, including priming and painting walls; installing, repairing, or replacing doors, ceilings, floorboards, windows, or supporting fleet equipment and vehicle operations.
  • Performs minor painting, carpentry, custodial, or general maintenance duties as assigned in facilities or fleet environments.
  • Conducts visual inspections of City-owned facilities, fixtures, equipment, or fleet assets and reports maintenance, safety, or operational issues to supervisors.
  • Leads or assists with cleanup and organization following repairs, maintenance work, emergencies, or weather-related events.
  • Responds to City emergencies or inclement weather events in support of facilities or fleet operations, as required.
  • Maintains an orderly storeroom, rotates stock, tracks supplies, and enters inventory or materials data into computerized systems.
  • Performs general housekeeping and cleanliness duties to ensure safe, organized, and functional workspaces.
  • Follows established safety procedures, departmental policies, and supervisor instructions while supporting daily operations.
