Position Summary: HII: Mission Technologies is seeking an Communications Specialist who will support our work with Gound Vehicle System Center at Detriot Arsenal in Warren, MI. GVSC's Communications Department is seeking a highly motivated and driven photojournalist for this role to consistently and rapidly develop written and photographic products that (1) tell the GVSC story; (2) integrate GVSC’s command messaging; (3) reinforce GVSC’s targeted perceptions. HII's Mission Technologies Division, has over 100 facilities worldwide and provides capabilities to support an all-domain force that includes artificial intelligence and machine learning, autonomous systems, critical nuclear operations, LVC systems, cyberspace strategies, and platform modernization. This position requires onsite work at The United States Army Ground Vehicle System Center GVSC located in Warren, MI. Requirements

  • Minimum Qualifications 3 years relevant experience with Bachelors in related field; 1 year relevant experience with Masters in related field; or High School Diploma or equivalent and 7 years relevant experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism or similar field.
  • 5 years’ experience as a photojournalist, ideally within a corporate environment.
  • The position requires professional writing and photography experience, the capability to develop a final, written product from broad initial guidance, the ability to develop products quickly, and the ability to coordinate with key members of other agencies for input, restrictions, and adjustments to these products.
  • Proactive, highly self-motivated and driven to succeed.
  • Effective prioritization, organization and time management skills.
  • Ability to manage simultaneous activities with competing deadlines.
  • Effective verbal and written communication with G/O and SES-level staff.
  • Ability to work with little direction and incomplete information.
  • Experience in aggregating information into succinct communications.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of news and feature writing, public relations writing, technical writing, journalism, media law, photography, and social media engagement.
  • Skill in reviewing and editing written products to ensure accuracy, propriety, clarity, and a favorable Army image.
  • Knowledge of publication and periodical management practices for both print and electronic media.
  • Skill in writing, editing, proofreading, and producing content under tight deadlines and in high-tempo environments.
  • Knowledge of GVSC’s mission, capabilities, and accomplishments, with the ability to apply initiative, creativity, and judgment to develop effective communication strategies.
  • Skill in developing communication products such as flyers, briefing charts, and visual materials designed to inform, educate, and influence public understanding of GVSC’s mission.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as a GVSC public affairs support specialist to the Communications department.
  • The position requires independent operation with an ability to integrate organizational messages and priorities into written products in such a way that the events or topics described in the written products reinforce the organization’s message and intent.
  • Writes and edits news releases, feature articles, and other communication products describing GVSC technologies, capabilities, and services in alignment with current Army messaging priorities.
  • Produces content supporting exhibitions, award and recognition ceremonies, lectures, special events, and GVSC workforce activities.
  • Disseminates written and visual materials through Army communication systems, including CORE and DVIDS, and through social media platforms to reach internal and external audiences.
  • Communicates with diverse audiences, including civilian and military leaders, academic and industry partners, other government agencies, and local and national media.
  • Coordinates and collaborates with GVSC civilian and military personnel, Army organizations, and external partners; engages with media representatives as required.
  • Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with subject matter experts, major commands, other public affairs offices, and national organizations associated with ground vehicle systems science and technology.
  • Ensures compliance with Department of the Army and Department of Defense public affairs policies and publication guidelines.
  • Conducts and coordinates required public affairs and operational security (OPSEC) reviews prior to publication.
  • Performs other duties as assigned to support the public affairs mission.
  • Travel requirements may be up to 25% with occasional operation in austere environments.
