The Communications Specialist plans, develops, and supports implementation of communication and promotional efforts that advance the people, programs, events, strategies, and goals of the Department of Surgery using innovative materials and methods, including print, digital, video, broadcast, social media, public events, displays, exhibitions, and news releases. This position supports department faculty, staff, and trainees in the development, drafting, editing, and submission of articles, presentations, posters, and grant proposals/applications, including oversight and coordination of department website(s) and other digital outlets and assets. Communications are focused on target audiences, including but not limited to faculty, staff, students, academic and community-based care providers, patients, prospective applicants and trainees, alumni, current and prospective donors, professional and industry partners, and other external and internal audiences and stakeholders. Our surgeons and medical professionals address a wide variety of complex medical issues, from matching donors with recipients in the Organ Transplant Center to providing continuous care for both adult and pediatric trauma victims in the state's only designated Level I Trauma Center and certified regional Burn Treatment Center.
