About The Position

The Communications Specialist III is an experienced communications professional who serves in the C-level suite of the Business Affairs division at Prairie View A&M University. This role develops and leads strategic communication initiatives for Business Affairs under the supervision of the executive director for business affairs operations. This position is responsible to write, edit, design and prepare communications for the division of business affairs as well as executive-level materials. This position creates and manages digital content on websites, newsletters, social media, internal communications across the division and campus, alongside other informational materials to support the Business Affairs division. The communication specialist III works in a high customer service-centric environment, ensuring that communication consistently reflects care, clarity, and genuine commitment to the people we serve. The Communication Specialist III ensures compliance with PVAMU, TAMUS system and state accessibility standards and improves usability for the division and campus. This position works collaboratively with the office of marketing and communications. Please Note: The salary is determined in accordance with the University’s compensation structure and will be commensurate with the candidates’ education and experience, within the assigned salary range for this position.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in communication, marketing, journalism, or a related field.
  • Four years of related experience.
  • Strong writing skills tailored to specific audiences.
  • Proficiency in editing for grammar, clarity, structure, and consistency.
  • Demonstrated experience planning internal communications initiatives or supporting executive communications for senior leadership.
  • Experience with social media management, analytics, and digital content creation.
  • CMS, mass email platforms, adobe creative suite, social media analytics, google analytics)
  • Familiarity with content management, email marketing, and analytics tools
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Creative thinking for marketing and storytelling strategies.
  • Organizational skills to plan events and manage cross-functional initiatives.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in web content management systems and social media platforms, including analytics tools.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work under deadlines, multitask, and collaborate in team environments.
  • System Implementations and/or migrations.
  • Podcast Experience.
  • Technical proficiency with Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Cloud, Canvas, and other tools.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in communications, marketing, journalism, or a related field.
  • Five or more years of relevant experience in communication, public relations, or a related field preferably in higher education.
  • Advanced writing, editing, and storytelling skills.
  • Proven ability to lead high-level projects and mentor student workers.

Responsibilities

  • Strategy Development: Develop and support implementing a comprehensive communication strategy for the Business Affairs division, aligning messaging with the university’s goals and brand. Supports the development and implementation of division-wide communication and marketing planning for business affairs. Strategic thought partner and supports to influence departments for proactive communication management that pertain to the division of Business Affairs and campus. Provides, and analyzes data-driven strategic communication ideas based on performance data. Organizes and conducts training on communication topics for other staff and may develop style guides to maintain consistent messaging. Works with administrators and staff to identify communication opportunities and implement effective solutions. Collaborates with the central Marketing and Communications Office on university‑wide initiatives, committees, and projects by providing subject‑matter expertise, aligning messaging as appropriate, and advancing institutional goals through coordinated efforts.
  • Content Creation, Management and Branding: Researches, writes, and edits copy for a wide range of materials, including press releases, web pages, video features, newsletters, speeches, other portals, and promotional materials. Supports internal communications within Business Affairs (e.g. division-wide emails and newsletters) and collaborate on campus-wide messaging for key initiatives to ensure coherent and timely information sharing. Ensures institutional marketing and branding for all communications and publications coming from the division of Business Affairs. Collaborate with the Office of Marketing for alignment and quality control. Involvement in crisis management and high-level internal/external messaging withing Business Affairs, and across campus. Create paper and digital creative content for multiple channels of communication. Coordinate production of print and digital communications materials such as brochures, flyers, newsletters, email blasts. Independently manages project timelines and resources. Taking a strategic approach to complex communication efforts.
  • Website & Social Media Management: Manages the division’s social media presence and website and engagement, develop content that upholds the university’s branding and strategic communication standards. Monitoring effectiveness and suggesting improvements. Promote Business Affairs departments events and programs via various channels. Serves as a primary contact for media relations for the division of business affairs. ensuring accurate and positive representation of the division and Prairie View A&M. Conducts web and content analytics, tracks performance, platform and tool usage.
