About The Position

The Barbados Tourism Marketing Inc. in its quest to promote, assist and facilitate the efficient development of tourism and Barbados’ tourism product, is seeking to recruit an exceptionally skilled individual to fill the position of Communications Officer. The Communications Officer will support the day-to-day execution of communications and public relations activities that promote Barbados as a premier travel destination. The role has a strong emphasis on hands-on public relations support, media coordination, content development and monitoring of coverage and public sentiment.

Requirements

  • A Diploma or Associate’s Degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or a related field with at least five (5) years’ relevant work experience in a similar environment.
  • Practical knowledge of public relations and media relations practices.
  • Experience with crisis communication management.
  • Excellent oral, written and presentation communication skills.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Sound planning, organizing and time management skills.
  • Strong interpersonal relationship and collaborative skills.
  • Ability to influence through clear communication and effective stakeholder interaction.
  • Sound decision-making and problem-solving abilities.
  • Results-oriented, with the ability to adapt to a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Working knowledge of the tourism industry would be an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Execute approved communication and public relations plans to support the promotion of Barbados as a leading tourism destination.
  • Monitor media coverage and public sentiment, identifying emerging issues, trends and opportunities.
  • Manage PR efforts, which include drafting press releases, coordinating media outreach and engaging with tourism stakeholders.
  • Prepare and edit reports, briefs, media talking points and engaging content, ensuring consistency in messaging.
  • Establish and sustain strong relationships with local and international media, journalists, tourism partners and key stakeholders
  • Build partnerships with tourism boards, local businesses, and other stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to ensure consistent and effective messaging across all communication channels.
  • Assist with crisis communications by monitoring emerging issues, supporting response strategies and coordinating internal information flow as directed.
  • Track and compile media coverage reports and assist with evaluating the effectiveness of communication and PR activities.
  • Coordinate local PR activities and collaborate with regional and global PR entities.
  • Assist with planning and executing media briefings, press events and promotional activities for key tourism stakeholders.
  • Prepare presentation materials and assist with the delivery of tourism-related presentations to stakeholders and the public.
  • Represent the company at events, trade shows and other promotional activities.
