About The Position

The Bryan County Board of Commissioners is now accepting applications for Full Time Communications Officer I in our Public Safety Department. This position is to receive and dispatch emergency calls to the County’s Sheriff’s Department, Public Safety Department, Cities of Pembroke and Richmond Hill Police and Fire Departments, EMS, Bryan County Fire Departments, and Animal Control. The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma (or GED) required
  • Must be capable of demonstrating the ability to operate the E911 equipment under the supervision of a trainer
  • Demonstrate the ability to work unassisted in any of the operator positions within the department
  • Must attend and pass the state certification and complete training on GCIC with in six months.
  • Must be able to type at least 30-45 words per minute.

Responsibilities

  • Answers multi-line telephone to receive calls from the general public; determines the nature, location and specifics of emergency or problem and provides non-emergency help and referral assistance as needed.
  • Operate two-way radio to dispatch the appropriate law enforcement, fire and/or emergency medical services personnel to scene.
  • Monitors the location and activities of all law enforcement, and other emergency services personnel on CAD (Computer Aided Dispatch) system.
  • Dispatches law enforcement to assist other agencies and officers as needed.
  • Records case information on incident cards and assigns case number to calls.
  • Maintain wrecker log, community service log, bonds log, case report numbers (CRN) log and other log sheets.
  • Contacts wrecker services, utility companies and various agencies to respond to emergency calls.
  • May run NCIC/GCIC inquiries on vehicle registrations, driver’s license checks and criminal background histories; relays information to law enforcement.
  • Enters/removes warrants into GCIC/NCIC.
  • Monitors alarm board for businesses, homes, and banks.
  • Issues incident reports to the general public.
  • Maintain log of warrants and civil papers served by deputy sheriffs.
  • Punctuality and attendance are essential.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
