About The Position

Working at The Preservation Society of Newport County offers you the opportunity to work for an organization that preserves, protects, and presents 13 historic properties and landscapes in Newport, Rhode Island. As part of the team, you have an opportunity to help preserve and maintain a cultural, historical and the social treasures of Newport, Rhode Island. The Communications Manager works closely with the Director of Marketing and focuses on supporting the communications planning and campaign execution for the various business units within the Preservation Society (PSNC). This person must excel in building strong cross-departmental relationships, understand all aspects of marketing communications, and possess a particular strength in marketing strategy and implementation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, or a related field required
  • Five to 10 years’ experience in marketing, communications, marketing strategy and/or marketing campaign development
  • Excellent communicator who is comfortable speaking with and presenting to all internal and external stakeholders, from executive leadership to members of the media.
  • Excel at prioritizing simultaneous projects in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, and delivering them in a timely manner.
  • Demonstrated technology competency with the ability to learn new software and systems quickly.
  • Analytics-driven and willing to network tirelessly.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.

Nice To Haves

  • MBA or similar Graduate Degree preferred.
  • Experience with Meltwater and/or CRM platforms a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the development and implementation of all marketing communications strategies and plans across multiple business units to promote key initiatives and programs (special events, membership, long term projects, etc.).
  • Identify and capitalize on opportunities to promote and positively represent the PSNC through internal and external communication.
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures for communicating on behalf of the PSNC that represents the organization’s identity and promotes and supports the organization’s mission.
  • Serve as primary contact for traditional and new media outlets, regional and national.
  • Liaise with partner organizations as needed (Marketing agencies, PR agencies, trade organizations and state tourism entities)
  • Work with the Director of Marketing to develop reports and make recommendations on communications and media strategies including story pitches, nurturing relationships with desired media outlets and communications cadence.
  • Work closely with the Director of Marketing to refine organization-wide marketing and communications processes.
  • Assist with the development and execution of Communications efforts, including writing press releases, developing a museum press kit, and more as needed.
  • Prep CEO prior to interviews and other media interactions.
  • Oversees the workflow and work assignments of the communications team to ensure effective collaboration among team members and consistent, quality work. Supports team with editing, copywriting and content duties for communications channels when needed (email comms, television copy, annual report, YouTube channel, website).
  • Follow prescribed safety and health rules, regulations, and practices.
  • Perform other related duties as required or directed.
