PURPOSE This position is responsible for creating, managing, and distributing content for the College of Engineering and Computer Science (CECS) electronic newsletter, social media platforms, and promotional materials as well as coordinating events within our college. This role involves writing, editing, and capturing photography to effectively communicate our brand, values, and message to stakeholders. In addition, the position is responsible for planning, coordinating, and executing events for the CECS. This role involves working closely with various departments, student organizations, and external partners to ensure successful and noteworthy events that align with the CECS mission and goals.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in applicable field.
  • Two (2) years of experience in story writing, content creation, event planning, or related experience.
  • Excellent writing, editing, public speaking, and leadership abilities.
  • Intermediate skills with computers, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.).
  • Knowledge of web site organization/design, social media platforms (Instagram & LinkedIn), and internet technologies and terms.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Self-motivated and self-directed.
  • Strong organizational skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in communication, journalism, or a related field.
  • Experience in graphic design and web content management.
  • Proficiency in Cascade, Mailchimp marketing platform, etc.
  • Proven experience in event planning and coordination in an educational setting.

Responsibilities

  • Write, edit, and proofread articles, stories, and announcements for the CECS electronic newsletter.
  • Develop engaging and relevant social media content that aligns with the university's positive branding and marketing goals.
  • Capture high-quality photographs that highlight events, students, and campus environment.
  • Design and layout the electronic newsletter using Mailchimp marketing platform.
  • Manage subscriber lists and ensure compliance with email marketing regulations.
  • Analyze and report on newsletter performance metrics, making data-driven recommendations for improvements.
  • Plan and execute photo and video shoots.
  • Promote events through various channels, including social media, email campaigns, and the university’s website.
  • Collaborate with campus communications staff to ensure brand and messaging consistency and effectiveness.
  • Plan, organize, and execute events such as conferences, workshops, seminars, student activities, and special ceremonies.
  • Develop event timelines, schedules, and detailed plans to ensure smooth execution.
  • Coordinate event logistics, including venue selection, catering, and audio-visual needs.
  • Ensure compliance with institutional policies and procedures for all events.
  • Monitor expenditures and track expenses to ensure events remain within budget.
  • Oversee event setup, execution, and teardown, ensuring all aspects run smoothly.
  • Prepare post-event reports summarizing outcomes, challenges, and recommendations for future events.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
