About The Position

The communications and social media specialist will be responsible for creating a variety of written, visual and digital communications to help promote the school of nursing, advance its mission and strategic plan, and build community. These will include news and feature stories, e-newsletters and other publications, and web content. In addition, the specialist will be responsible for managing the school’s social media accounts, including working with the communications director to develop and execute social media content strategy with an eye toward growing the audience and leveraging the platform to promote the school and the work of its faculty, staff, and students. The specialist will closely monitor social media metrics to measure success and adapt the social media content strategy as needed. The individual should have sound editorial judgment, and be adept at creating well-written, effective communications. They should be able to adapt communications styles and tones for different audiences and needs. Experience with video production is a plus. The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy. Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement. The salary range for this position is $72,000 - $154,600 (Annual Rate). Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, or related area and three or more years of directly related experience and/or equivalent experience / training.
  • Minimum of three years of experience managing social media platforms and building online communities
  • Thorough knowledge of the fundamentals of writing, grammar, syntax, style, and punctuation
  • Thorough knowledge of appropriate editorial style and publication guidelines.
  • Thorough skills to write clear, lively, engaging and compelling copy in a variety of styles appropriate to target audiences and / or the broader public, while ensuring adherence to the location's message.
  • Knowledge of computer applications for publishing, image handling, and / or web production.
  • Thorough research and fact verification skills.
  • Thorough interpersonal communications skills, including active listening and effective collaboration skills.
  • Thorough analytical and critical thinking skills.
  • Thorough attention to detail, project management and organizational skills.
  • Skill to maintain confidentiality.
  • Thorough knowledge of the location, including its mission, goals, achievements, infrastructure, programs, and policies.
  • Thorough knowledge of issues in higher education, a specialized academic discipline or field and / or health sciences.
