About The Position

Under limited supervision, installs, maintains, and inspects SCETV towers and equipment. Serves as technical support for new tower construction, upgrading existing towers, dismantling, and moving existing towers and equipment. Ensures that all towers are compliant with all FAA, FCC, EIA/TIA, OSHA and ANSI, and ASTM rules and regulations.

Requirements

  • An associate degree in electronics and related experience or a high school diploma and work experience in tower lighting systems and tower maintenance.
  • A valid class E driver's license and clean driving record.
  • Current Tower Climbing certification is preferred. (Consideration will be given if prior certification has lapsed)
  • Possession of a valid Tower climbing certificate (Competent/Authorized Climber/Rescuer and/or Competent/Authorized Rigger) within the first six (6) months of employment.
  • Individuals assigned to this position will be assigned duties that require a considerable amount of walking, standing, bending, stooping on both even and uneven terrain.
  • Climbing, ascending/descending, controlled descending to include but not limited to the following: All tower types, buildings, stairways, step ladders and extension ladders.
  • Must be able to sit, stand, squat, kneel, bend, stoop unassisted.
  • Must be able to lift/carry a minimum of 75lbs.
  • Candidate must be physically able to climb several types of vertical structures to include, but not limited to: (Guyed towers, Self-support towers, monopoles, broadcast towers, etc.).
  • Statewide travel is required.
  • Must be willing and able to be on call and available 24hours a day, seven days a week.
  • Employee will need to reside in one of the following SC counties: Lexington, Richland, Kershaw, Sumter, Calhoun, Clarendon, Orangeburg, Bamberg, or Dorchester.
  • The Council for Higher Education Accreditation must recognize Institutions of Higher Learning.

Nice To Haves

  • An associate degree in electronics and three years of certified tower climbing with (Competent Climber/Rescuer and Competent Rigger Certification) or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Knowledge of directives, guidelines, specifications, rules, and regulations issued by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), Federal Communications Commission (FCC), Electronics Industries Alliance (FIA), Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), American National Standards Institute (ANSI), and American Society for Testing and Material (ASTM) governing towers.
  • Crane or boom truck operating experience with a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
  • First Aid and CPR certification.
  • RF awareness training and certification.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize and perform maintenance as required on all SCETV owned towers, wire attachment points and tower foundations.
  • Inspect, repair, and maintain grounding for towers, and tower equipment.
  • As required, inspect, maintain, and assist with removal of any of the nearly five hundred SCETV owned towers and equipment located at schools State-Wide.
  • Coordinate with third parties as needed for jobs outside of the scope of our crew.
  • Ensure that all SCETV owned towers are maintained in accordance with Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and Federal Communications Commission (FCC) guidelines.
  • Assist tower crew with additional duties as assigned.
  • Order parts, supplies, and tools as required per crew lead instruction.
  • Maintain an active inventory of work vehicle tools, climbing equipment, and supplies.
  • Inspect and maintain all assigned climbing equipment, informing crew lead when equipment fails inspection or may need to be replaced.
  • Attend all crew mandated training and certification.
  • Trouble-shoot, using trouble-shooting manuals, voltmeters, all lighting related components to include the following: (Lighting controller components/ Beacon lights/ Beacon components).
