About The Position

The University of North Texas at Dallas invites applications for a unique combined faculty/staff position in the Communication and Digital Media Program. This role blends teaching excellence with hands-on program support, offering a dynamic opportunity to shape student learning both inside and outside the classroom. The successful candidate will spend 50% of their time teaching Communication and Digital Media courses and 50% managing the operations of the university's Speaking Center and related facilities. Requirements

  • A Master's degree in Communication, Journalism, Film Production, Script Writing, or other related discipline and outstanding experience or potential for excellence in teaching Communication-related courses.
  • The successful candidate will possess a strong foundation in communication theory, media production, and public speaking pedagogy, with the ability to translate that expertise into effective, student-centered instruction.
  • A commitment to inclusive teaching practices and the ability to mentor students from diverse backgrounds is essential.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, combined with organizational and time-management abilities, are necessary to balance the demands of teaching, service, and administrative responsibilities.
  • In addition, the candidate should demonstrate leadership and supervisory skills, particularly in training and mentoring student workers.
  • The ability to manage facilities, digital equipment, and media technology systems effectively is required, along with attention to detail and problem-solving skills in a fast-paced academic environment.
  • Above all, the successful candidate will be committed to fostering student success and supporting the mission of the Communication and Digital Media Program and the university.

  • Successful experience teaching adults in a post-secondary institution.
  • Experience managing academic centers, media production spaces, or digital equipment checkout systems.
  • Experience supervising student workers.

Responsibilities

  • Teach undergraduate Communication and Digital Media courses, which may include public speaking, media production, digital communication, and other program offerings.
  • Employ student-centered, experiential teaching methods to engage diverse learners.
  • Maintain an active record of service to the department, university, and/or discipline.
  • Oversee the daily operations of the Speaking Center.
  • Supervise, train, and schedule student workers.
  • Manage the digital production equipment check-in/out system.
  • Observe, evaluate, and provide constructive feedback to students practicing speeches or presentations.
  • Oversee and maintain Communication and Digital Media facilities, including the radio station, podcasting studio, editing suites, and Mac Lab.
  • Coordinate with faculty and staff to ensure smooth operation and availability of resources.
