In this key role, your responsibility will include strategy definition and manufacturing engineering leadership throughout a new model development program. This will involve the application of lean manufacturing principles to ensure the highest quality, most efficient processes and products possible. Lead an energetic team of manufacturing engineers through process, product, labor, and investment optimization. Balance lean manufacturing principles with new technology for both auto and manual operations at various capacity levels. Provide engineering leadership through virtual product and process DPA through UPV2 end. Global lead of manufacturing requirements. Work with product development and our regional partners through BoD / BoP, modular architecture, and design rule activities. Support current model TVM, product / process benchmarking, and working with product development through the next generation closure assembly implementation that balance studio requirements with real world process capability. Lead the lesson learned feedback loop to drive Process Driven Product Design. Develop and manage relations with our tooling vendors for current and future model tooling. Maintain oversight from the point of creating our statement of work through tool buyoff and launch at the assembly site. Drive resolution of manufacturing issues. Validate manufacturing feasibility for throughput, future model flexibility, and sustainability.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or engineering technology.
  • 7 plus years in body construction and / or two new model launches
  • Willingness to travel (up to 40-50%) and support launch activities at our North American Assembly plants.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Excel, Project, and PowerPoint), Teamcenter, & AutoCAD.
  • Sound oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to demonstrate a focused attention on component and system level quality to identify root cause to achieve process capability. Willingness to become a certified 6-Sigma black belt.

Nice To Haves

  • “Hands On” tooling experience.
  • Systems engineering experience including GD&T, DVA, and how to achieve process capability.
  • Working knowledge of statistical tools (Minitab, control charts, data collection, etc.).
