About The Position

The Commodity Specialist is responsible for developing and executing sourcing strategies that support the company’s operational, quality, and financial objectives. This role owns category management for metallic commodities (including steel, aluminum, copper, titanium, and related alloys) within a manufacturing environment. The role leads supplier strategy, contract negotiations, cost optimization, and risk management efforts while collaborating with Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Finance, and Supply Chain to ensure supplier performance, continuity of supply, and business alignment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, or Engineering.
  • 3+ years of experience in strategic sourcing, procurement, or supply chain roles within a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience managing supplier relationships and leading negotiations.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Proficiency with ERP and sourcing systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, SyteLine, or similar).

Nice To Haves

  • Experience sourcing metallic raw materials, fabricated metal components, or machined parts.
  • Working knowledge of cost modeling, should‑cost analysis, and TCO methodologies.
  • Experience supporting new product development or engineering‑driven environments.
  • Professional certification such as CPSM, CSCP, or equivalent.
  • Proficiency with analytical and visualization tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau, Advanced Excel) to support spend analysis, supplier performance tracking, and data‑driven decision making.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute category strategies for assigned metallic commodities.
  • Utilize commodity and market intelligence to drive cost reduction, risk mitigation, and continuous improvement.
  • Lead cost optimization initiatives using Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) principles, including value engineering and alternative sourcing.
  • Monitor raw material market trends and indexes to inform sourcing decisions and stakeholder engagement.
  • Support new product development (NPD) through supplier selection, early supplier involvement, and cost transparency.
  • Negotiate pricing, commercial terms, and contracts consistent with company requirements.
  • Identify and manage supply chain risks, including geopolitical, financial, capacity, and operational risks.
  • Lead supplier qualification, evaluation, and performance management activities in collaboration with Quality and Engineering.
  • Drive improvements in supplier cost, quality, delivery, and technical performance.
