About The Position

GEDIA North America is looking for an experienced Commodity Buyer – Steel & Procurement Specialist to join our team. This role is ideal for a hands‑on Project/Program Buyer with strong automotive launch experience and deep knowledge of steel and metal components. Candidates should be located in the Dalton, Georgia area or the Metro Detroit area of Michigan. The Commodity Buyer – Steel & Procurement Specialist will play a critical role in current and upcoming launch programs, with immediate focus on project buying and launch execution, followed by material purchasing support and long‑term value creation through tooling and stamping knowledge. This position requires close collaboration with project management, engineering, operations, and the ability to operate effectively in fast‑paced, high‑pressure launch environments.

Requirements

  • 5-10 Years of Automotive Purchasing Experience
  • Project Buying (steel, components, etc.)
  • Experience in steel Blanking and laser cutting knowledge
  • Travel Required
  • SAP Knowledge

Nice To Haves

  • Intermediate Spanish or German language advantageous

Responsibilities

  • Identify and onboard new suppliers to the GEDIA Group supplier portal and conduct market research.
  • Project buying (steel, components, etc.).
  • Coordinate and carry out benchmarking activities to identify strategic commercial suppliers.
  • Foster and maintain good relationships with the supplier base and internal GEDIA Group teams/escalations following standards/meetings.
  • Process orders, including intercompany orders, in accordance with purchase requests and approval in SAP, as well as investment orders.
  • Coordinate deliveries in accordance with order confirmation, track deadlines, and control incoming reservations, claims, and invoice verification.
  • Documentation in SAP and Astras.
  • Creation of summaries and presentations for internal reports.
  • Identification of potential savings following VA/VE rules.
  • Negotiations and cost breakdown analysis (CBD).
  • Support for internalization, resource reallocation, or outsourcing activities with stakeholders and/or relevant products/services, including spot steel searches.
  • Participation in the definition of pre-award strategies.
  • Coordination and support for activities relevant to the EOP in procurement.
  • Preparation of relevant KPIs (local and group).
