About The Position

We are seeking a highly skilled Commissioning Superintendent to lead on -site commissioning activities for ground -up data center construction projects in the South Chicago region. This role requires deep technical expertise in MEP systems, a strong understanding of mission -critical infrastructure, and the ability to coordinate complex testing and commissioning sequences across multiple trades. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in North America; visa sponsorship is not available.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of commissioning or startup experience on mission -critical, data center, industrial, or heavy MEP -intensive projects.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical and electrical systems, controls, and redundancy configurations.
  • Proven experience leading on -site commissioning or system startup activities.
  • Ability to read and interpret MEP drawings, sequence of operations, single -line diagrams, and commissioning scripts.
  • Excellent communication, coordination, and problem -solving skills in fast -paced construction environments.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with hyperscale or multi -megawatt (MW) data center commissioning.
  • Familiarity with commissioning software, Procore, Bluebeam, and documentation tools.
  • Background in both construction and operations environments (a plus).

Responsibilities

  • Manage all phases of the commissioning process for a ground -up data center, from early planning through integrated systems testing (IST) and final turnover.
  • Maintain and execute the commissioning schedule, ensuring each system and subsystem is tested in proper sequence to meet project milestones.
  • Serve as the on -site commissioning lead, coordinating closely with commissioning agents, third -party testing firms, and MEP subcontractors.
  • Oversee the startup, testing, and verification of major mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems including:
  • HV electrical distribution, UPS, switchgear, generators
  • Chilled water systems, cooling towers, CRAH/CRAC units
  • Pumps, controls, VFDs, and hydronic systems
  • Fire protection, plumbing, fuel systems, and BMS controls
  • Validate that all installed equipment is placed, connected, labeled, and energized per design prior to commissioning.
  • Lead activities during functional performance testing and integrated systems testing, ensuring systems operate properly under load and simulated failure conditions.
  • Verify sequence of operations, redundancy transitions, alarms, safety interlocks, and system automation performance.
  • Document all IST results and ensure corrective actions are completed and re -tested.
  • Collaborate daily with the General Contractor, mechanical and electrical trades, and the commissioning team to ensure readiness for each commissioning step.
  • Identify field conflicts, incomplete installations, or deficiencies that may impact testing, and drive timely resolution.
  • Support BIM/MEP coordination efforts to ensure commissioning accessibility and proper routing.
  • Ensure all commissioning activities meet project specifications, equipment manufacturer requirements, and mission -critical reliability standards.
  • Maintain commissioning logs, test scripts, documentation packages, punch lists, and turnover files.
  • Enforce safety protocols during equipment startup, energization, and testing sequences.
  • Provide regular commissioning updates, progress reports, and readiness assessments to owners, operators, and internal stakeholders.
  • Support OAC and commissioning meetings with clear reporting and issue tracking.
