This is an Executive Services position with the Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services (DPSCS). The incumbent serves at the pleasure of the appointing authority. The Commissioner of Correction is appointed by the Secretary of the Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services with the approval of the Governor and Senate advice and consent (Correctional Services Article, Secs 3-202 through 3-207). As a key member of the Office of the Secretary of DPSCS, the Commissioner of Correction provides overall management of the Division of Correction to include its correctional facilities, administrative functions, commitment services and Maryland Correctional Enterprises (MCE). Of utmost importance is ensuring the efficiency of operations, emergency preparedness, safety of personnel, incarcerated individuals and the public, monitoring of budgets, and adherence to statutes, policies and procedures.
