About The Position

As a Commercial Underwriting Team Leader I - Mid Market you'll be responsible for providing financial, credit, and trend analysis for the delivery of the Banks credit products and services to clients and prospects. You'll lead a team of Underwriters and Credit Analysts and actively manage, coach, and counsel individuals to improve their understanding of underwriting responsibilities and the significance of underwriting and risk management. One of your key responsibilities is to build partnerships with loan coordinators to obtain information needed to underwrite the credit requests. Our Commercial Underwriting Team Leaders act independently of sales teams to structure and evaluate credit requests and retains responsibility for attaining established Bank and divisional financial goals, balance sheet limits and portfolio reporting. Review credit analysis of new and existing credit requests and prepares financial analysis of tax returns (personal and business), analyzes financial statements and financial projections and is well versed in modeling a sensitivity and break-even projection analysis. Evaluate complex credit requests. Independently underwrite new credits and/or changes to existing credits and manages appropriate loan covenants to provide early triggers to detect deterioration of the credit. Take lead and review work/spreads completed by credit analysts and provides feedback and guidance. Ensure compliance with all applicable regulations, policies and procedures. Keeps up with changes to banking regulation and completes bank training courses on-line. Perform independent analysis of appraisal, environmental reports, and other third party reports including collateral audits and inventory or appraisals. Assign risk rating on new loan requests according to bank policy. Responsible for reviewing the calculations for spreads and due diligence documentation once completed by credit analysts. Always ensure compliance with all applicable regulations, policies and procedures. Keep up with changes to banking regulation and completes bank training courses on-line. Lead and develop a team; responsible for hiring, coaching, performance management, training and development.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of related experience.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience required.
  • Advanced knowledge of general banking operations, including deposit operations, loan administration, treasury management and/or other commercial banking products and services.
  • Advanced knowledge of applicable regulatory and legal compliance obligations, rules and regulations, industry standards and practices.
  • Advanced speaking and writing communication skills.
