About The Position

WCF Insurance, an "A" rated carrier growing throughout the western states, has an immediate opening for a Commercial Underwriter on the Small Business team in the Denver, CO area. This full-time, exempt position reports to the Director of Underwriting and offers the opportunity for hybrid work (Tuesday through Thursday in-office). An underwriter applies quantitative and qualitative analysis along with sound underwriting principals to evaluate new and renewal account risks. The incumbent manages a book of business for growth, profitability, and retention. The underwriter initiates and handles agent relationships through service calls and occasional in-person visits. The person in this position provides a thorough, documented risk analysis on new and renewal accounts leading to a recommendation on coverage terms and premium. We open to considering candidates for an Underwriter or Senior Underwriter depending on experience. Must have 5 years of related experience for the senior level. WCF Insurance offers an extensive compensation package. All employees earn 4 weeks of vacation their first year. Expected salary for the underwriting level position is $76,000 to $95,000 and $88,000 to $110,000 for the Senior Underwriter level depending on experience, certifications, and education.

Requirements

  • At least three years commercial underwriting experience in all business lines
  • Working knowledge of NCCI and state bureau manuals, rules and classifications.
  • Expert skills in Microsoft Office Suite, excel experience required.
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills, verbal and written.
  • Excellent critical thinking, problem solving, analytical skills.
  • Bachelor's degree in finance, marketing, business, or equivalent experience preferred.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with loss sensitive rating programs.
  • CPCU, ARM, CIC or similar certifications preferred.
