About The Position

The Commercial Underwriter II will perform a variety of duties to support the commercial lenders, board loan committee and board of directors in the determination of the customer’s credit worthiness. This position is an on-site role based in Metairie, LA. Candidates should expect to commute and be physically present in the office according to the standard schedule or as otherwise agreed upon with their manager.

Requirements

  • Bachelor Degree in business or related field of study or a combination of education and minimum of 3+ years of commercial lending experience.
  • Strong computer skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to use logic and reasoning to identify strengths and weaknesses.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team.
  • Ability to assume responsibility and accountability for decision making.
  • Ability to multitask and meet deadlines.
  • Reliable, accurate and excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability to work small office equipment (fax, copier, etc.).
  • Ability to travel if required to perform the essential job functions.
  • Ability to work under stress and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to read and interpret a document if required to perform the essential job functions.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer may be required.
  • Ability to lift/move/carry approximately 15 pounds if required to perform the essential job functions. If the employee is unable to lift/move/carry this weight and can be accommodated without causing the department/division any “undue hardship” then the employee must be accommodated; hence omitting lifting/move/carrying as a physical requirement.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure applications are accurate and complete.
  • Ensure compliance with loan policy and bank regulations.
  • Analyze credit data and financial statements to determine the degree of risk involved in extending credit or lending money.
  • Generate financial ratios using computer programs to evaluate customer’s financial status.
  • Prepare reports that include the degree of risk involved in extending credit or lending money for use in decision making.
  • Complete credit analyses and summaries of loan requests, and submit to the commercial lender.
  • Compare liquidity, profitability, and credit histories of establishments being evaluated with those of similar establishments in the same industries and geographic locations.
  • Investigate variances on applicant’s financial statements by requesting information from sources and researching developments within the industry.
  • Assist in training other Commercial Underwriters and reviewing credit underwriting packages for accuracy.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.
  • Cross train and provide backs-up as needed.
