About The Position

The responsibility of this position is to introduce business products and services to our community. To work with our Member Service staff and our business partners to originate business loans to include deposit account relationships. In doing so, the Business Development Officer will also be responsible for conducting thorough analysis of financial statements, tax returns and other business documents for credit requests, annual reviews, line renewals and other member business loan due diligence activities.

Requirements

  • 3-5 years business lending experience or financial sales and service experience.
  • Knowledge of on applicable regulations as well as alternative financing methods such as SBA lending.
  • Knowledge of current market for business lending opportunities.
  • Excellent oral, written, and auditory communication skills, as well as interpersonal interaction skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and/or Saturdays.
  • Able to research and evaluate data to make informed decisions and solve problems.
  • Strong mathematical and analytical skills.

Responsibilities

  • Champion the Business Services program and raise awareness among members and the community.
  • Deliver exceptional member experience through competency in knowledge and skills.
  • Originate business loans by interviewing potential members, completing applications, gathering financial documentation, and conducting thorough financial analysis for underwriting.
  • Present credit requests to the Committee for decision-making.
  • Support annual reviews, line renewals, and due diligence by analyzing financial statements, reconciling discrepancies, and understanding market data, ratios, and tax returns.
  • Assess risk to protect the credit union’s assets.
  • Collaborate with Business Service Team and serve as a contact point for applicants to ensure consistent and accurate member service.
  • Maintain knowledge of lending policies, procedures, loan systems, and relevant software.
  • Mentor Member Service Managers and staff to generate qualified business referrals and support training.
  • Engage with the business community through committees, events, and appointments.
  • Attend loan closings as a representative of the credit union and CUSO.
  • Stay updated on applicable regulations and alternative financing methods like SBA and USDA lending.
  • Identify cross-selling opportunities by assessing member needs.
  • Achieve individual and team goals to support the credit union’s objectives.
  • Provide financial counseling to members as needed.
  • Foster long-term member relationships based on Member Value culture and Universal Behaviors.
  • Ensure compliance with federally regulated disclosure requirements.
  • Complete required compliance training.
  • Register under SAFE Act Guidelines and attend appropriate training sessions.
  • Travel as required and perform other duties as assigned.
