The Commercial Credit Underwriter - Acquisition and Wholesale will be responsible for evaluating the financial strength of borrowers, analyzing collateral and market risk, and ensuring transactions align with the company's credit policies and risk appetite. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in Commercial & Industrial (C&I) and Commercial Real Estate (CRE) loan underwriting. The successful candidate will work closely with originations, credit, and executive leadership to support timely and sound credit decisions that drive portfolio growth while maintaining asset quality.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in credit analysis or underwriting, with direct exposure to C&I and CRE lending.
  • Strong understanding of financial statement analysis, cash flow modeling, and collateral valuation.
  • Familiarity with credit policy development, risk grading systems, and regulatory compliance requirements.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex credit concepts clearly and concisely.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and financial modeling; experience with loan origination or underwriting systems preferred.
  • Detail-oriented, analytical, and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Demonstrated experience underwriting acquisition or wholesale transactions, including secondary market or loan purchase activity is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Underwrite acquisition and wholesale transactions, including structured financing, loan purchases, and participations.
  • Conduct financial analysis of borrowers, guarantors, and counterparties, with emphasis on C&I and CRE credit exposure.
  • Assess loan structure, collateral value, and repayment sources to ensure creditworthiness and compliance with internal policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Prepare complete credit memos and present timely findings and recommendations to the credit committee.
  • Collaborate with origination and Chief Investment Officer to identify credit risks and establish policy compliance and pricing.
  • Review and analyze third-party reports such as appraisals, environmental assessments, and rent rolls.
  • Support due diligence and documentation for loan purchases, participations, and acquisitions.
  • Contribute to process improvement initiatives to streamline underwriting efficiency and enhance credit quality.
