The position reports to the Commercial Credit Manager with oversight of underwriting, portfolio maintenance and operational risk to support the Commercial and Specialized Lending Product Segments. This individual will ensure adherence to Bank policy, and procedures. The position will balance asset growth with credit quality as part of achieving department and overall Bank financial objectives. Evaluate the financial health of commercial loan applicants to assess creditworthiness and determine the degree of risk. You will provide independent analysis for loan requests that will typically range from $500,000 to $4,000,000, ensuring all transactions align with internal credit policy and regulatory standards.

Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, Economics, or equivalent work experience.
  • Experience: 2–5 years of experience in commercial credit analysis within a community or regional banking environment. Knowledge of multiple areas of commercial banking including real estate, C&I, and SBA lending.
  • Technical Skills: Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and familiarity with core banking systems like Jack Henry or Fiserv.
  • Traits: Strong research, prioritization, problem solving, organizational, communication and interpersonal skills. Strong attention to detail, self-drive and analytical skills. High degree of professional ethics and integrity.

Responsibilities

  • Financial Underwriting: Spread and analyze financial statements (tax returns, income statements, balance sheets) for businesses and individuals using software like Bukers or Moody’s Analytics.
  • Risk Assessment: Conduct global cash flow, debt service coverage (DSC), and sensitivity analysis to evaluate repayment capacity.
  • Committee Presentation: Prepare comprehensive credit memos and executive summaries for the Loan Committee and Board of Directors, providing objective recommendations on loan structure and pricing in accordance with established underwriting standards.
  • Portfolio Management: Perform annual reviews and monitor loan covenants to identify early signs of credit deterioration.
  • Collateral Evaluation: Order, review and summarize third-party reports, including appraisals, environmental assessments, and UCC filings.
  • Lender Collaboration: Partner with Relationship Managers to better understand customer’s business operations and market dynamics.
  • Training: Complete ongoing training.
  • Additional duties as assigned.
