Position Overview As an Estimator at Ackerman Plumbing, you will evaluate project plans and specifications, perform quantity takeoffs, develop competitive bids, and support project teams throughout the preconstruction process. Your expertise ensures accuracy, cost control, and efficiency as you help position the company for continued growth and success.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of estimating experience in commercial plumbing or mechanical construction
  • Strong understanding of plumbing systems, codes, and installation methods
  • Proficiency with estimating software (such as Trimble, QuoteSoft, or similar)
  • Ability to read and interpret architectural, structural, civil, and MEP plans
  • Strong mathematical, analytical, and organizational skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines simultaneously
  • Detail-oriented, self-motivated, and able to work independently or as part of a team
  • Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Bluebeam

Responsibilities

  • Review and analyze project drawings, specifications, and related documents
  • Perform detailed quantity takeoffs for labor, materials, and equipment
  • Prepare accurate and competitive cost estimates for commercial plumbing projects
  • Solicit and evaluate pricing from vendors and subcontractors
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities and value engineering options
  • Assist project managers by providing budget updates and cost clarifications
  • Coordinate with the estimating team to update pricing databases and templates
  • Participate in project handoff meetings to ensure smooth transitions to operations
  • Develop bid proposals and ensure timely submission of all required documents
  • Communicate effectively with internal teams, vendors, general contractors, and clients
