Rockland Trust is actively recruiting Trainees to learn the skills necessary to join our strong team of Credit Analysts, Portfolio Managers and Commercial Loan Officers. As a Commercial Banking Development Trainee, you will be part of a comprehensive, formal training program held in Boston, MA. You will work directly with other credit professionals, Commercial Loan Officers and other Rockland Trust departments to master basic lending practices including loan structure, financial analysis, credit risk assessment, and relationship management. This program is designed to prepare participants for future roles within Commercial Credit, Portfolio Management, or Commercial Lending. Following successful completion of the program, you will be encouraged to pursue open positions to continue your career growth. Currently, Rockland Trust has Lending Centers throughout Greater Boston, South Shore, Cape Cod, Greater Worcester, Providence and Merrimack Valley areas. What Does a Credit Analyst Do? A credit analyst prepares comprehensive credit analyses to assess credit worthiness of businesses and individuals. Commercial loan requests presented for analysis may include real estate financing, lines of credits, equipment loans or other commercial credit facilities. Independent risk ratings and recommendations are developed based on a thorough analysis, including: Spreading and analyzing financial statements and conducting collateral analysis to minimize risk and potential loss Performing economic and industry analysis, financial projections, and risk assessments to maximize credit quality Evaluating clients' credit needs and borrowing capacity Verifying information provided utilizing available resources, such as the internet, credit reports and other tools provided internally Communicating with Lenders and accepting feedback from Senior Credit Colleagues Participating in internal and external training programs to build technical and professional skills Credit and lending recommendations are based on the complete analysis of businesses’ financial condition, cash flow, debt capacity, and collateral to properly assess potential risks regarding the company’s ability to repay the proposed loans. Program Experience: Commercial Banking Development Program Trainees will collaborate with experienced Commercial Lenders and Credit professionals supporting a diverse portfolio of small business, middle market, and commercial real estate clients through active portfolio management and credit review. Trainees will receive extensive training on sales fundamentals, relationship management, and client development . The program concludes with a structured rotational experience, providing exposure to multiple credit and lending teams to help Trainees better understand the organization and identify potential long-term career paths within Commercial Banking.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or other related field highly preferred OR relevant experience in financial analysis and banking
  • Strong knowledge of financial accounting
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to successfully complete online and in person training in conjunction with credit assignments
  • Ability to communicate clearly and professionally via email, phone and other modes of communication
  • Comfortable working independently while also collaborating with teammates to achieve shared goals
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Teams, Outlook) in the Windows environment
  • Strong candidates will demonstrate intellectual curiosity, critical thinking skills, accuracy, sound judgment, and accountability, with the ability to absorb new concepts quickly, apply feedback, and manage multiple priorities
