About The Position

This position is primarily responsible for all commercial real estate accounting including rent tracking and reporting, processing of commercial A/P and A/R, commercial banking and related reporting for Mission Housing’s commercial properties. This position will also be responsible for grant accounting: submitting invoices to agencies, recording payments and distributions to residential properties. The position may also prepare various financial projections, coordinate & assemble due diligence materials and maintain asset management analysis summaries for each commercial property as part of the Accounting Team. The position participates in the execution of financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting and cash flows for MHDC’s commercial properties.

Requirements

  • Must have a BA or BS in Accounting or Business Administration, or related fields.
  • 2-3 years in Commercial Real Estate property management accounting or experience in accrual-based accounting for commercial and retail properties.
  • Experience with preparation of CAM reconciliations for commercial real estate projects.
  • Thorough understanding of generally accepted accounting principles and fixed asset accounting.
  • Experience with preparing financial statements and monthly variance analysis.
  • Understanding of real estate tax issues.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work within a team-based environment.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks.
  • Planning and organizational skills.
  • Technical Skills required – Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, NetSuite

Nice To Haves

  • Preference for corporate real estate and commercial real estate accounting experience.
  • Yardi experience helpful.

Responsibilities

  • Review commercial property invoices for appropriate coding and processing payment.
  • Process late fees, interest charges, billing adjustments and other charges as directed by Asset Management.
  • Prepare and enter commercial property related journal entries to accurately account for all costs.
  • Bill back tenants for services and utility expenses.
  • Manage the monthly rent invoice processing and receipts.
  • Monitor tenant AR details for non-payments, delayed payments and other irregularities, and assist Asset Management in identifying collection issues.
  • Track assigned commercial property budgets and lead monthly budget meetings to identify and discuss any cost/budget issues.
  • Review and ensure property expenses are properly recorded in a timely manner.
  • Prepare year-end work papers for commercial properties to facilitate the tax return preparation.
  • Reconcile commercial property budget and final cost reports and prepare yearly close-out.
  • Reconcile commercial bank accounts monthly.
  • Ensure leases are abstracted accurately and entered in NetSuite in a timely manner.
  • Prepare the CAM Reconciliations for Controller and AM to review.
  • Maintain internal controls, monitor controls at the property level, and make recommendations for improvements when necessary.
  • Provide ad hoc analysis and reporting as needed.
  • Package backup documentation with templates for HUD and HSH Continuum of Care and other Subsidies.
  • Enter values from allocated salary and benefits and admin expenses.
  • Edit backups to redact sensitive information.
  • Process applications for payment and request funds via CARBON, ELOCCS, GMS.
  • Pay grant funds to customers/properties.
  • Maintain a pleasant friendly attitude among company personnel and commercial tenants so that a positive working environment exists. Strive for enhanced communication, effectiveness and continuity.
  • Communicate regularly with all other operating teams to assure achievement of company-wide goals.
  • Actively participate in cross-functional teams and meetings to promote the continual improvement of operating strategies, customer satisfaction and financial results.
  • Perform own administrative duties.
  • Work and collaborate with finance, accounting, asset management and development teammates.
  • Interact with Property Management.
  • Interacts with commercial tenants.
  • Assist with monitoring and enhancing current systems/processes for commercial and corporate accounting.
  • Assist Controller and Accounting Manager with special tasks.
  • Perform other duties as considered appropriate and consistent with the mission of Mission Housing, including working at occasional community-building activities, programs and events (i.e., annual on-property community activities, Carnaval, Sunday Streets, fundraisers, etc.) – as needed or assigned, during or outside regular business hours.
