About The Position

Join our community and experience Emerson College! The Commencement Assistant supports the day-to-day activities of the Commencement Office during the spring semester including receiving, reviewing and addressing requests for information and/or service etc., following up on customer concerns via email, or telephone, and when possible, assisting in-person at the six May graduation ceremonies. ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES Receives, addresses and responds to general inquiries, requests for service/support and/or complaints. Researches information using the Commencement website or online data management systems in order to address any issues or concerns. Refers concerns to the Commencement Director for follow up, as needed. Resolves routine and basic problems and communicates solution or requested information to the customer. Verifies that appropriate changes/resolutions have been finalized. Escalates and refers unresolved customer grievances to the Commencement Director for further review, as necessary. Reviews and processes confidential information with discretion. Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets. QUALIFICATIONS – Qualifications are deemed required or preferred and represent what is needed to effectively perform job. Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent required. Minimum 1 year of relevant experience in customer service required. Previous work experience in a Higher Education setting interacting with students, parents, or faculty preferred. Previous work experience with events preferred. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES – May be representative, but not all-inclusive, of those knowledge, skills, and abilities commonly associated with the job. Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form, including the ability to articulate and explain policies, concepts, and processes sensitively and clearly. High level of accuracy and attention to detail. Facility with Excel, Google Drive, and Gmail. Ability to learn new software quickly and comfort with web-based data management systems. Ability to recognize, analyze and solve a variety of problems. Ability to work with a wide range of constituents including parents and families, students, faculty, and staff. Ability to work on a variety of projects and tasks simultaneously while prioritizing the work in an efficient manner. Requires the ability to effectively communicate in person and through communication media Requires constant coordination of Mental and Visual Attention PHYSICAL ABILITIES – Activities commonly associated with the performance of the functions of this job. Usual Office Conditions Hotel ballroom, theatre, arena This is a part-time position, between 10 - 20 hours per week at an hourly rate of $26.
