Requirements

A high school diploma or its equivalent is required.
Must be able to read with comprehension and write legibly.
Must be proficient in use of proper grammar.
Must be able to operate switchboard and intercommunications systems and be familiar with location and functions of various departments.
Must have a pleasant telephone voice and manner.

Nice To Haves

Six months' experience as a switchboard operator is preferred.

Responsibilities

Operates PBX switchboard.
Receives incoming telephone calls.
Relays calls to appropriate personnel or patients.
Answers attendant lines.
Places long distance calls when requested.
Handles emergency communications.
Maintains files on location of patients in the hospital.
Provides patient information.
Pages hospital personnel or physicians as requested.
Operates radio communications system to relay messages.
Maintains assigned logs and records.
NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Other duties as assigned.
