The Comfort Splint Tech position involves learning to fabricate and repair various dental prostheses and appliances, including dentures, partials, crowns, bridges, inlay/onlays, veneers, and implant restorations. Key aspects of the role include understanding basic tooth morphology and anatomy, interpreting dental prescriptions, and familiarizing oneself with a wide range of materials such as metal (precious, non-precious, gold) and non-metal materials (porcelain, composite, acrylic, polyurethane, co-polyester, thermo plastic). The tech will learn to restore natural teeth and correct dental irregularities by manufacturing fixed or removable appliances, develop technical knowledge for decision-making during fabrication, and potentially learn to construct partial or full dentures. The role requires familiarization and practice with various hand tools and equipment like electric drills, presses, lathes, and high-heat furnaces. Learning progress is documented through quizzes and worksheets. The individual will work under the supervision of trainers, seeking assistance and clarification as needed, and will learn quality standard protocols to ensure compliance. The tech will also learn to identify problem cases requiring additional preparation and to work independently while knowing when to seek help.
