About The Position

The Heritage Hunterstown Power Station, situated in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, is equipped with three GE Frame 5 combustion turbines (CT1–CT3). Each 20 MW unit offers dual-fuel capability, blackstart functionality, and remote start operation, ensuring versatile and rapid response to grid demands. Collectively, these turbines provide highly reliable and flexible power generation to support the regional energy network. Additional power facilities in Pennsylvania include sites in Abbottstown, Mount Holly Springs, Orrtanna, Mt Bethel, Birdsboro, and New Freedom, featuring a mix of GE Frame 5 combustion turbines and a Siemens V84.3 unit. These units, fueled by fuel-oil or dual fuel, are equipped with Blackstart and Remote Start capabilities to provide flexible and reliable local generation. Opportunity Summary The CT Technician, based at Heritage Hunterstown Power Station in Gettysburg, PA, operates and maintains three GE Frame 5 turbines (CT1–CT3) and associated systems, including air compressors, generator cooling, and fuel handling. Duties include start-up, shutdown, operations, inspections, minor repairs, and maintaining logs, while collaborating with operations staff and management. This role also supports regional facilities in Abbottstown, Mount Holly Springs, Orrtanna, Mt Bethel, Birdsboro, and New Freedom, which house GE Frame turbines and a Siemens V84.3 unit with dual-fuel or fuel-oil capability, Blackstart, and Remote Start. Responsibilities at these sites include turbine operations, auxiliary support, inspections, minor repairs, compliance monitoring, and mentoring personnel. Your scope of responsibility as CT Technician includes the following primary functions:

Requirements

  • An Associate degree in Plant Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Electrical Engineering Technology, Process Technology, or a related field is preferred. Alternatively, equivalent technical training in industrial maintenance or instrumentation and control is beneficial, though not required. Relevant industry or military experience may be considered in lieu of education.
  • Minimum of two years of hands-on experience operating combustion turbines or equivalent generating equipment, including start-up, shutdown, and routine monitoring.
  • Ability and willingness to regularly travel between Hunterstown and regional facilities, utilizing a company vehicle to provide operational and maintenance support.
  • Experience with plant emergency procedures, turbine trips, and Blackstart operations to ensure rapid and safe return to service.
  • Proficiency in troubleshooting, maintaining, and repairing mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and microprocessor-based turbine and auxiliary systems.
  • Knowledge of preventive and predictive maintenance programs, inspections, and minor project support, including equipment installation and commissioning.
  • Experience operating and maintaining auxiliary systems such as air compressors, generator cooling, fuel handling, and monitoring natural gas and fuel oil systems.
  • Ability to test, calibrate, and maintain instrumentation and environmental monitoring systems, including Continuous Emissions Monitoring Systems (CEMS) and other compliance equipment.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and apply piping and instrument diagrams (P&IDs) and process control schematics to support operations and maintenance.
  • Strong commitment to industrial safety practices, lockout/tagout procedures, hazardous material handling, accurate recordkeeping, and adherence to all environmental and regulatory standards.
  • Must possess a valid, unrestricted U.S. driver’s license and ensure it remains in good standing at all times.

Responsibilities

  • Starts, stops, and operates the three GE Frame 5 combustion turbines (CT1–CT3) at Hunterstown and travels to regional facilities to operate additional units, ensuring safe operation within prescribed limits and monitoring instrument readings.
  • Clears or prepares equipment for service, adhering strictly to tagging, testing, and safety protocols.
  • Operates and maintains key auxiliary systems—including air compressors, generator cooling systems, fuel handling, and locally controlled electrical and mechanical equipment.
  • Operates and monitors fuel-related systems (natural gas and fuel oil), performs routine fuel sampling and inventories, coordinates fuel deliveries, and ensures proper fuel management.
  • Installs, tests, maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, microprocessor-based, and solid-state systems—including generators, motors, rectifiers, transformers, relays, and turbine control systems.
  • Performs mechanical maintenance, installation, and repair on plant structures, auxiliary equipment, and support facilities.
  • Supports preventive and predictive maintenance programs, minor projects, and system upgrades, assisting with inspections, equipment installation, and commissioning across all assigned facilities.
  • Tests, calibrates, and maintains instrumentation and environmental monitoring systems, including emissions compliance equipment; maintains and troubleshoots Continuous Emissions Monitoring System (CEMS) and other compliance equipment.
  • Responds to plant emergencies, turbine trips, and system alarms at Hunterstown and regional facilities, including performing Blackstart procedures as needed to ensure rapid return to service.
  • Maintains accurate operational logs, completes reports and documentation (e.g., outage logs, material requisitions, time sheets), and reports abnormal conditions with corrective actions per procedures.
  • Operates plant support equipment, including vehicles, cranes, and hoists, and utilizes a company vehicle for travel between Hunterstown and regional sites.
  • Provides guidance, oversight, and mentorship to personnel assisting with operations or maintenance activities.
  • Completes other assigned tasks as needed, including temporary assignments within the plant or emergency response duties that can be performed safely.
