About The Position

This is a paid internship program. The intern will be responsible for processing and analyzing estuarine sediment cores, expanding the District's knowledge of how ecosystem change affects sediment dynamics in the Indian River Lagoon and Halifax River. Position includes a significant amount of time in the lab processing sediment cores, with the opportunity to perform field work. Intern must be comfortable working outside in conditions of cold, heat, humidity, thunderstorms, and insect activity. Typical field dress for these activities includes swimsuit, field pants, short or long-sleeved shirt, and hat. Any required specialized clothing or equipment will be provided by St. Johns River Water Management District.

Requirements

  • College or university student currently enrolled in a degree-seeking program and either attending classes or participating in a work experience program sanctioned by the individual school and at least a junior level (senior level preferred) studying in a related field.
  • All students must maintain a 2.5 GPA or higher.
  • Spend long hours processing samples in the lab.
  • Swim

  • Communicate well with others
  • Maintain a priority of safety, data integrity, and efficiency
  • Make effective, consistent, and defensible decisions.

  • Produce reports/presentation to highlight accomplishments
