About The Position

This is a full-time summer internship with the potential to be extended part-time into the school year. Extensions will be reviewed regularly and will be determined based on the needs of the department and project scope. The internship may not exceed one year. As part of the Aviation Environmental Compliance Team, you will support programs associated with contaminated sites, stormwater, and hazardous materials handling and disposal. This program ensures compliance with state and federal laws associated with current and historical uses (and releases) of chemical-containing materials.

Requirements

  • A student – You must be currently enrolled in an undergraduate or a recent graduate (< 1 year ago) in a degree program such as Civil, Environmental, or Chemical Engineering, Environmental Science, or equivalent.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate with construction projects for proper identification, handling, and disposal of contaminated materials.
  • Review, summarize and update records of past investigations, cleanups, and spills in the Port’s historical records database.
  • Conduct field visits to locate and inspect stormwater best management practices for condition and operation.
  • Support staff with planning community planting events, invasive species removal efforts, and inspections of Port vegetated areas.
  • Support staff with planning for environmental soil and groundwater investigations.
  • Evaluate field and analytical laboratory data.
  • Coordinate with Port Maintenance Crews for upkeep and repairs to existing soil caps, permeable pavement areas, and stormwater control structures.
  • Support staff with site inspections of materials handling areas.
