About The Position

The Educational Studies Department seeks a faculty member who can provide in-depth knowledge of educational theory and inclusive practices along with providing opportunities to build learning communities. Typically teaches 18-21 semester hours per academic year per and advises Educational Studies majors. Additional duties include ongoing professional development, serving on campus-wide committees, assessment of academic programs, and supporting Christian Science-based character education in accord with Principia’s mission as outlined in Education at The Principia. The Educational Studies Department values faculty members with a passion for educating, a commitment to scholarly engagement, and an ethos of service and collegiality. Requirements

  • Student of Christian Science

  • Master's degree in education and experience in the field of Education, which may include classroom teaching, outdoor education, or youth work.
  • Theoretical and practical understanding of current research on learning theory and communication principles.
  • Willingness to be a generalist who can do multiple tasks and teach multiple subjects associated with education; to be a reflective, critical practitioner of teaching; to work collaboratively in multiple settings with multiple groups; and to be an effective communicator.
  • Ability to work with a range of students and skill levels.

Nice To Haves

  • Doctorate in Education, or related field, preferred.
  • Classroom teaching experience or work with college-aged and/or PreK-12 students, preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Co-teaches and co-facilitates the B.A. Major’s Educational Studies Block program, [https://catalog.principiacollege.edu/majors-minors/educational-studies/ba/] as a part of annual teaching semester hours.
  • Meets students for academic advising, conferences, and academic support.
  • Works actively with colleagues in performing the general business and decision making of the Department and Center.
  • Assists in Departmental and Center work, including assessment, program review, and development of curriculum.
  • Teaches courses within the context of Principia's philosophy of liberal arts education.
  • Demonstrates commitment to the Educational Studies Department’s learning outcomes (Pedagogical Knowledge, Authentic Leadership, Communication, and Reflective Practice).
  • Plans a variety of educational field trips (occasionally overnight), school visits, and/or community service opportunities for students.
  • Values an experiential and constructivist pedagogical approach to teaching and learning.
  • Supports General Education (GenEd) requirements (including teaching GenEd courses) within the EDST Department, and Writing Program expectations.
  • Works closely with students to further develop their thinking, writing, research, and communication skills.
  • Attends Departmental and Center meetings, and Faculty Senate.
