About The Position

Bishop Moore Catholic High School seeks a student-centered, mission-aligned, and knowledgeable College Counselor to guide upper-school students through a comprehensive, values-rooted college counseling program. This role supports students in exploring post-secondary pathways, developing thoughtful and balanced college lists, preparing strong applications, and understanding how their strengths, faith, and purpose connect to their future goals. The counselor collaborates closely with families, faculty, and administrators and plays an integral role in delivering a supportive, faith-informed, and holistic counseling experience for every student they serve.

Requirements

  • Ability to work collaboratively and effectively with students, parents, administrators, colleagues, community, and other school community staff.
  • Experience in college counseling, college admissions, academic advising, or related fields.
  • Strong knowledge of the college admissions landscape, application platforms, and current trends.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, communication, and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to guide students with compassion, clarity, and a commitment to Catholic values.
  • Experience working with diverse families and students in a fast-paced environment.
  • Commitment to professional ethics and to supporting the mission and values of Catholic education.
  • Must be enthusiastic and passionate about working with high school students and their families.
  • Ability to work some evenings and weekends.
  • Employment is contingent on the applicant passing a full background check.
  • Upon employment, the individual will be subject to a 90-day probationary period.
  • Requires an appreciation and respect for the Catholic Church and its teachings. Church employees must conduct themselves in a manner that is consistent with and supportive of the mission and purpose of the Church. Their public behavior must not violate the faith, morals or laws of the Church or the policies of the diocese.
  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
  • 5+ years of experience in college admissions or college counseling at an independent or Catholic high school.
  • The ability to communicate, listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences.
  • The ability to read and understand information and ideas presented in writing.
  • Strong command of both written and spoken English language.
  • The ability to sit and stand for long periods of time.
  • Must be able to reach, grasp, feel, and see up close and from a far.
  • Must be able to use basic office computer hardware and peripherals, with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Must be able to communicate verbally and in written form.
  • Tasks require the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, but which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of light weight (15 pounds).

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with college readiness platforms (Naviance, Maia Learning, Scoir, etc.) is a plus.
  • A master’s degree in counseling or a related field is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • An understanding that BMCHS is a Catholic High School and an appreciation and commitment to upholding the Catholic spiritual and intellectual traditions as they are the foundation of all things at the school.
  • Advise students and families in developing a college list and the best potential college fit linked to the student's academic interests.
  • Develop a personalized standardized testing calendar for all students: SAT, ACT.
  • Write counselor recommendation letters.
  • Review, edit, and support the development and writing of resumes and college essays.
  • Assist students in completing college applications and scholarships.
  • Responsible for entering Bright Future Scholarship data.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with university admissions representatives and facilitate meetings between college representatives and our students.
  • Facilitate college and career sessions in classrooms and as workshops.
  • Facilitate college information night.
  • Develop and present parent awareness programs related to diverse admissions systems.
  • Promote and utilize the use of Naviance.
  • Submit school documents needed for applications.
  • Compile yearly data regarding college acceptances and statistics.
  • Collaborate with the logistics and proctoring of standardized testing including but not limited to ordering, counting, and handling of testing materials before, during, and after testing.
  • Model and teach interview skills.
  • Building positive, trusting relationships with students, families, and the school community in a manner consistent with Catholic values.
  • Meeting regularly with students and their parents/guardians to review academic progress, discuss goals, and guide planning aligned with each student’s strengths and aspirations.
  • Collaborating with faculty, mental health counselors, and administrators to monitor student well-being and ensure coordinated support.
  • Guiding students in grades 11–12 through every stage of the college search and application process, including: Course planning and academic strategy Standardized testing timelines Balanced college list development Athletic recruitment guidance (as applicable) Essay writing and application completion Submission and follow-up
  • Writing individualized, detailed, and mission-aligned counselor recommendation letters for all seniors in their caseload.
  • Leading and supporting college counseling programming, including workshops, parent nights, evening events, and college representative visits.
  • Assisting in creating and updating counseling resources such as handbooks, newsletters, and the annual school profile.
  • Representing Bishop Moore professionally at local, regional, and national college admission events to remain current on trends and strengthen relationships with colleges and universities.
  • Serving as an ambassador for Bishop Moore by cultivating strong relationships with admissions offices nationwide and advocating for students throughout the college admission process.
  • Participating in departmental meetings, ongoing professional development, and school-wide initiatives that support the mission of Bishop Moore Catholic High School.
  • Performing additional duties as assigned by the Director of Student Affairs, Assistant Principal, Principal or President.
