These fields may include office-level work/assignments, fieldwork, and/or civic services. The nature of the work will be based on areas of interest, degree programs, or organizational needs. MSD DIVISION OF COMPLIANCE SERVICES (SAFETY) Mission:To establish a partnership with colleges and universities, exposing as many students as possible to employment opportunities in the Wastewater Industry and help them become experienced professionals in the next generation workforce. Purpose: Co-ops will aid Wastewater Compliance Service division safety team on a variety of efforts ranging from supporting operations/ maintenance staff, assisting in inspecting fall equipment, monthly equipment inspections, assist in field visits, edit and review job hazard analysis, updating chemical inventory and safety data sheets (SDS) of all seven treatment plants, and review confined space permits. Overview: Throughout the course of the year a number of college students will join MSD's staff for a cooperative experience. Under direct supervision of the project manager, the Co-Op will perform assigned work by applying OSHA standards and MSD written program regulations to practical applications. The co-op will interact with other office and field personnel, including management, administrative, operations, collection, and maintenance staff. Expectations and Deliverables Candidates should have the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment and work independently Budget:Desk, phone, computer, salary of student for the duration of their semester (roughly 15 weeks) Logistics:The Co-Op will have a workstation at WWC in the Safety Office when there to aid the Safety rep who reports to WWC. Training:The Co-Op must be trained on City policies, rules, and regulations. They must also be trained on any MSD Safety programs they will be utilizing including but not limited to Hazard Communication, JHA, Hearing Conservation, PPE, Fall Protection, Confined Space Awareness, and others. Deliverables: The Co-Op will provide documentation for completed noise exposure surveys, chemical inventories and accompanying SDS, equipment inspections, and any other task requested by the Safety section. Learning Milestones: Orientation (week #1) Needs Assessment (week #2) Begin Project Work (weeks #1 - 3) Project Manager and co-op will work together to use the workflow tools to define projects and timelines that ensures that project goals and objectives will be achieved. The projects will be tailored to suit the student's interests as available. Continuation of Project Work (weeks #4 - 14) Investigate solutions, gather information from various sources, and work as necessary to complete project deliverables as well as possible additional ideas on project solutions. Perform mid-term review of project schedule and timeline at week #8. Make necessary adjustments to meet project objectives and project manager's expectations. Prepare Final Documentation and Report Out (weeks #15 - 16) Conclude projects, where possible. Provide documentation and discuss with necessary parties to enable continuation of unfinished work.
