About The Position

As a Safety Co-op / Intern for the Global Alltech Health and Safety team, the intern will help to support the team with H&S policy, protocols, and initiatives.  With responsibility for supporting the Global HSE team in the H&S management system and for development of H&S resources, training programs, procedures, SOPs, KPIs, etc.  Fantastic role for someone looking to build on their knowledge and experience to work towards a future full-time health and safety position. Note: This is a Co-op experience and requires working and attending school concurrently.  Anticipated length of assignment is 12 weeks with the option to extend. The Safety Co-op / Intern role will report to the Regional Safety Manager and collaborate with the Regional Safety Coordinators.  This role is based out of the corporate headquarters in Nicholasville, Kentucky.

Requirements

  • Current student pursing a BS degree in safety/environmental science or related technical discipline.
  • Excellent analytical, written and verbal communication skills as well as strong interpersonal skills.
  • Self-starter and team oriented
  • Candidate must be well organized to handle numerous tasks and be able to work with a variety of people with varying backgrounds and job functions.
  • Must demonstrate computer proficiency in MS Word and Excel
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
  • Must possess the manual dexterity, flexibility and visual acuity to preform inspections functions requiring walking, climbing, squatting, lifting, bending, twisting, etc.
  • Ability to climb up and down ladders and work at heights above 6 ft.

Responsibilities

  • Influence behavior and inspire commitment on the part of all personnel in complying with Alltech safety standards and maintaining a safe work environment.
  • Support management's efforts to ensure compliance with corporate Safety Program expectations and applicable federal and state law. Identify and inform management of compliance issues, safety risks and improvement opportunities through the conduct of daily, weekly and monthly audits.
  • Provide support and guidance to employees on safety-related issues and concerns
  • Assist in conducting safety inspections and trainings, preparing reports, and ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal HSE regulations
  • Conduct risk assessments related to jobs performed (Job Hazard Analysis) and new equipment introductions. Recommend appropriate risk mitigation measures to management, including ergonomic considerations, in all such efforts.
  • Collaborate with various departments to develop and implement safety policies, procedures, and training programs
  • Identify opportunities to minimize workplace injuries, accidents, and health problems.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate HSE documentation, including incident reports, audit results, and compliance checks
  • Conduct research on safety best practices and make recommendations for improvement
  • Assist with other duties as needed.
